Phobia, I've never ridden a 749 but what'd be interesting is if Rhino or someone else with an 848 hops onto a 999S and tells us what they think.

Nathan, yeah there's quite a few other choices out there. New Tornado, new RSVR, there's even a nice Agusta F4 1000 in Peter Stevens for low $$$ (highish k's though). I do like the looks of the Tornado. 999S is just such a hot looking bike - especially with Fila or Xerox stickers! White 848 looks good, I'm not overly keen on the red 848 (or 1098).

Ozboy, no 1098 as it's above the budget approved by the CFO. I'm limiting myself to $24k.

Hokoyo, I think they're closish in peak power but I haven't seen any direct comparisons of the whole power and torque curves yet. Going by the MotoOne site the 999 has a lot to give with a full exhaust system and some cam dialling. I don't know if you'd get much more from an 848? With regards to the power and torque they may well be the same but while the 848 sings it like Michael Buble, it's like the 999 has Lemmy from Motorhead screaming it at you. It certainly grabs your attention!

That 999S is quite good value. $24k and it's ready to ride (i.e. has slip on mufflers at least). They also have a new black 999S Monoposto but the CFO won't approve purchase of that one as she can't hop on the back!
