Are they actually different? Or are post whores now a product of the repping system?
I've seen an overwhelming (I'm not *actually* overwhelmed) rise in bullshit posts that pander to opinion in search of rep. Frankly, I think it is pathetic.
My own 'rules of engagement' for rep are:
- ONLY give positive rep. Give it for something insightful and that 'adds value' to PSB. This way, a members 'value' will increase (not to be confused with popularity - fake or otherwise).
- Don't give or hide behind negative rep. Anything negative or questionable should be aired publically (if you have the minerals) or via PM, to at the very least, mount up for discussion.
It seems that people have their whiny little groups on here and they'll just follow each other around like flies on shit + repping each other (to the point they have to 'spread' their reputation) before sliding their ePeen back up their mate because they posted a picture of a fat dog.
The repping system is overlooked as being a tool for identifying members that are notable and valued in our community, and instead, is now 'almost' an indication of how big a tool that member is. (There are some exceptions to this but I'm noticing a trend.)
So, do you think the repping system has any merit, or is it feeding either the whores or 'little men' out there to look more important than they are and thus, diluting PSB of value?
