    Talking 1000cc bikes

So, soon I will be stepping into the realm of 1000cc sport bikes.

    I've had a couple of 600's, 250's and even a 1700cc MT 01.

I throw the question to thee...which thou do I go for?

Thinking to sticking with the: Honda's, Suzuki's, Kawasaki's and Yammies.

    Help me decide PSB

Test ride a CBR, Gixxer, Ninja & an R1 and buy the one that you like best.

    Bam, there's your answer.

Was hoping that people who have owned the bikes can shed light on their downfalls...as a test ride does not show these problems

the perfect bike for one will be the downfall of another.

i can't recommend a bike beyond intended use and price range since i'm a different shape to most people, i ride differently too.
Do you remember the good old days before the internet?

when arguments were only entered into by the physically or intellectually able.

Mate I wasn't being funny. I just believe that the only way to pick a bike is ride them yourself as it's such a personal 'feel' thing. What someone might say is twichy or spongey or super dooper gigity, someone else will totally disagree on because we're all so different.

If it was me (and this is what I'll do when I'm next in the market for one) is go in with no preconceived perceptions, get my butt on them all and just see which bike my style (or lack of ) gels with. Then that'll be the one I buy.

So go and try them all. Maybe even try the Euro one's too?

Unless price is the issue, you should reconsider not straying from Japanese bikes. The BMW S1000RR is just like a Japanese bike to ride but is head and shoulders above them in every aspect. And it will hold its value better. btw - none of the modern bikes have any 'downfalls'.

Quickshift, i had the MT01 as well, even rode it to Sydney and back. Bought it new for $22,500, sold it for $5200. so i hate Yamaha.
My 2nd hand gixxer K6 1000 will run with anything on the road, lap times on race tracks don't really mean much on the road.
So? All the thous are good today.

This, pretty much. Reviews and impressions will vary from rider to rider. Someone who like linear power will love the hoonda and dislike the kwaka and visa versa. Those who prefer a more aggressive position will usually gravitate towards the R1, those who want a bit more upright posture will often be found on the gixxer. Having said that, they all have their quirks that you will only find if they have that special something (other than big power) that makes you never want to get off of them.

IIRC, the gen 1 Ninja can have an issue with the head-frame cracking, especially if they've been put down. Both the Gixxer and Blade are somewhat notorious for reg/recs, but I might have my years confused. R1's are notable for wearing out gears, especially 2nd, though again, I might have my years confused, but that can be exxy to have them undercut as the 'box has to come out.

Have a bash on a 'Busa/ZX12/14 as well if you like lots of power and a reasonably comfy ride. Heavier than the thous, but certainly not to be discounted in the twisties with a decent rider. Also worth throwing a leg over the Z1000, CBR 1000 and speed triple as well unless you really want a faired bike, all are very capable fun. Speaking of faired bikes, a daytona 675 doesn't give much away to a thou until rather silly speeds and IMHO, is more comparable to a thou than a I4 600.

You really need to set out some criteria to judge what you want out of the bike and then get on it and try to make a mental note of how well they do against it. If you simply want something fun, just buy the one you like the look of, they'll all do the job of handling well and going from stationary -> fun -> licence loss faster than you can say "Holy Crap, that's really fast!"

Considering he's looking at '04 - '07, he's not going to get an S1k, nor an italian thou equivalent in reasonable condition and roughly equivalent performance for the price range he's looking at.

If this question had a definitive answer, everyone would be riding the same bike...

Since they're not, it implied you need to get out there and see what gives you the biggest boner.
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Buy my stuff, everything now half price - http://www.perthstreetbikes.com/foru...woofer-144818/

Our Father, Who art at Phillip Island, Hallowed be thy name

As far as R1's go, iv had some experiences with both the big bang version and the flatplane version.
In my opinion it's all about what you want in a bike. The 09+ version is an absolute machine. Incredible mid range, phenomenal top end and when you're pushing above 10krpm you can really feel the motogp DNA in the bike. Plus the sound? the roar that sounds like a mix between a Vtwin, V8 and motogp bike gets me off everytime.

However the cons are it's a bit of a pig in the lower rpm. I sometimes feel I need to feather the clutch through corners when below 4krpm otherwise the bastard jerks back and forth a bit. Thats why I like the <08 as it is definitely a lot more of a streetable bike. Smooth power delivery unlike the big bang r1. It feels like much more of a refined bike than the 09+

My recommendation though is to ride them all. You'll never know which one is right for you until you try them all.
