Find some 22mm nuts and a bolt, and lock them together, and use a spanner on it.

If you can find an M14 bolt and nut from a proper fastener supplier (eg Coventry/Sweetman etc) that has a 22mm hex head A/F.
Likewise a 1/2" heavy or structural bolt has 7/8 AF.

Here's a useful reference Bolt Markings

A lot of bikes have this set up. Depending on what kind of bike you got, check it out on yours...

I assume you have left the axle pinch bolts tight before you tried to losen the axle nut? Have you got a pic of the nut or at least, what kind of bike is it? I got some tools here to do the job, if you get stuck.

Ahh I see. Just mentioning as I had the same thing happen ages ago, only to find out I was looking to undo the wrong end! Much embarrassment ensued.

    Kaneg Hex tool

$34.95 delivered and they are usually pretty quick. Might be worth grabbing one for future use.
