    Australia's best bike roads

OK, there may already be a thread on this I just havent found yet, but its always worth sharing your best bit of blacktop.

Mine - Adelaide hills, up Chain of Ponds from Grand Junction Rd, through Birdwood (stop at the Motor Museum, some really excellent old bikes). Hang a right out of Birdwood and head off to Lobethall (stop for lunch at the bakery), then your choice:
    1. Cudlee Creek / Gorge Rd
2.Lobethal Rd onto Basket Range to Norton Summit, or Carey Gulley through Mount Lofty and back on the freeway.
Then if the mood takes you, skip the trip back on the freeway and just keep going down south toward Strathalbyn, stay overnight and repeat in reverse the next day.hysterically all the way!!!

Do a Google Earth, or Whereis search and you'll see whayt I mean.

Having ridden out of all the Capitals in Australia, I recon this is still the best ride. If you can do it on a Tuesday morning after 9AM, when the traffic is gone - you will reach Valhalla.

I can't remember the exact name of the road but might be 'Kinglake' or up that way at least, In Victoria Geez it was fun.
This post is now diamonds! I'm on a horse.

Jack: we try not to promote the good roads, because it's just like giving the cops a list of where to find and harass bikers.

In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

As long as it isn't in WA?

Heh heh - love the corkscrew out past Gorges Rd.

Or the run from Queenstown to Derwent Bridge - maybe a little _too_ twisty.

    Thredbo to Kancobhan is too.

There's fuckall in WA. And even if there was I wouldn't be posting it.

The east coast roads have been blabbed in a book called Bitchin Bitumen. The roads here in WA haven't and I hope it stays that way. Get a mate or two to show ya some nice roads then keep em off the net (The roads that is) . Mostly you will need to travel and spend the best part of half to a full day return to experience a decent set of twists, but that's half the fun of riding. Pissing off for the day, leaving the dishes in the sink, missus doing whatever the fuck she does and enjoying being out there with a few pals.

If you are prepared to befriend a few locals you will soon be shown a few good places to go. Otherwise map and google earth your ass off.

yeah dont mention the good WA roads on here. we have so many around here and the WA cops are so stupid they will never find them. their only resource is this forum for finding the good motorbike roads, so if we dont mention them life is sweet.

Bitchin Bitumen, or the HEMA Australian Motorcycle Atlas. Found a copy at PI after I'd been through the Adelaide Hills and Grampians on the basis of "big map + where's the squiggly lines". Did me very nicely for the rest of a round-oz trip!

Speaking of over east good roads, stay tuned for Starfish's Twisty Trek 09 to be announced in the next few weeks...

Gorge road used to attract to many heros IMO especailly on the weekend. Prefered Norton summit there were also a few little side roads which I don't know the names of. Used to also go right though Birdwood up over the back of the hill and then back would need to get a map out. Unfortunatly the safety crats have been at work and the speed limit in the hill has been dropped from 110 to 80 which is sad.

No one has mention great ocean road, well its not too bad if you don't mind dodgin caravans tourists etc etc.

Many + 1's. Did not have a bike licence when living over East, but know the Snowy area extremely well. Would love to take a bike from Adaminaby to Kiandra & on to Cabramurra. Used to be great in a car - on a bike it would fantastic.

The Great Ocean Road used to be good 15 years ago if you didnt go on a weekend or holiday, but now its full of cages and mobile chicanes 24/7.

Closest I ever came to death, 2002, semi 1 overtaking semi 2 around a blind corner, with me and my poor little 888 comming th eother way. I dived for the cliff side, and scraped both mirrors - left on the cliff and right on the truck. I can still feel it in my balls just thinking about it. Too shakey to ride for about an hour. Obviously didnt get the regos, I was too busy at the time.

Agree on the GOR - these days it's something to be taken carefully. Very carefully.

Still an awesome morning's ride though.

<cough> http://www.perthstreetbikes.com/foru...-it-s-on-61775 (lots of Aussie's best on this trip!)
