    Cool Barbagallo Ride days

    Hey,

Apart from Trackdayz are there any other companies running events at Barbagallo? I had alook at advance dates and they book up quick.
Having returned from UK and seeing the Moto GP at Silverstone and Brit Supers at Oulton Park, and countless bike shops, the itch is there to take out my bike and thrash the crap out of it !!!!!!!

P.S. Is there any night say once a month a get together happens in Perth at for example a pizza place or cafe???? Whether on a bike or not???????

so, expanding on the question posed by the flying haggis above (and not start another thread on the subject):

I have done the Level 1 Trackdayz course, as well as the RAC ARD course. I am looking to book myself in for some more track time and move up to either the RAC Tuning Session, or the Trackdayz level 2. Unfortunately these are both booked out pretty solid for the next month or two (Trackdayz is for the remainder of the year!) so i was looking at the possibility of doing the Ridedays WA course instead.

From what i can gather MCRC WA Ride Days are run at three levels:
    Level 1 - Ride Smart
    Level 2 - Track Smart
    Level 3 - Ride Day

From the website the L1 Ride Smart course seems to cover the basics, which is not really what i want to do again. Is it possible (and sensible) to go straight to L2 Track Smart, which seems to be more track focussed tuition?

What is involved with the Ridedays course, is it comparable to either the Trackdayz or RAC courses?

Any advice and feedback would be much appreciated.

How confident are you on the track? Back when I did a couple of racecrafts (what is now Track Smart), they were generally pretty tidy groups of people who felt good on the machines and had a decent flow around the track. I gather it's slowed down a little these days, but it's still more of a lead up to racing tuition, and you won't be babied as much as you are at a Trakdayz session.

If you feel good on the bike and are riding smooth (you don't have to be especially fast. Just smooth), you'll get a lot out of it. The tuition you get is excellent. If you're still feeling a bit tense and easily spooked, I suspect it may be a bit quick. But someone who's done the course more recently should confirm.

    cheers Wilson,
like you suggest; I will wait for a bit of advice from someone who has done the course recently, but to answer your questions - i have been on the track a few times (RAC x 1 & Barbs x 2). reasonably confident, without thinking too highly of myself. understand smooth is where it's at... etc... etc...

oh, and before someone suggests: "Call them up and ask", i find that sometimes the admin/booking staff aren't able to give the specific feedback i am after, hence asking you folks who have "been there, done that".

You've probably got the experience. If you back yourself, go for it! The worst* that could happen is you'll learn something

*Not actually the worst thing that could happen

Register for level2 and if we don't think you are in the right group we will move you. I coach for both Ridedays and Trakdayz and usually level 2 because I like it.

Best advice I'll give is listen to your coaches and you will surprise yourself.

Got my first trackday on saturday, might be a wet one
Our Father, Who art at Phillip Island, Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done
In the backroads as it is on the freeway
Give us this day our high-octane premium fuel
    And forgive us our lanesplitting
As we forgive the four wheel drives, the volvos and the taxis
And lead us not into gravel corners
But deliver us from hand-held radars
For thine is thy leather, thy denim, thy Gore-Tex and thy Kevlar

Group dynamics vary and Coaches are stretched sometimes with so many ppl in groups now at both days, but Ive found MCRC to be a step above (in lvl 2) when it comes to developing corner speed and putting laps together. Coaches dont miss much ... love it and learning heaps from them at both companies/clubs.

    Thanks Aufitt,
that is the kind of information i was after. Like i said, i have done the Lv 1 Trackdayz and the ARD RAC day.

Reading their website, the description of the Ridedays Lv 1 "Ride Smart" course sounds very similar to the RAC ARD, which i did last weekend. Being such a road skill focussed, beginner course i wouldn't want to do something like it again in a hurry.

However if it was more like the Trackdayz Lv 1 group then I would have no hesitation doing it, as i learned a LOT that day and i found it improved my riding greatly.

Hence asking where the Ridedays Lv 1 "fits" in terms of course structure and training.

    Hope that makes sense??

The Ridedays level 2 assumes a bit more track experience than a level 1 Trakdayz. They won't teach you things like countersteering. They'll get into the nitty gritty of putting together solid, consistent laps and improving your times, with things like braking markers and working on your lines.
