Safety + pragmatism. Think big picture. A bike that has split past you is not going to tailgate you
It does a hell of a lot more for a motorcyclist's safety on the road than a loud as fuck exhaust or speeding to pass someone. It's also a hell of a lot more lawful.

Oh, and if it makes Cam feel any better, since he obviously is not guilty of any of the antisocial acts that I so warmly approve of, the reason I went under the car as mentioned previously was because I was too close. And not watching properly. Not very close, mind you, just too close. And not good at impromptu stoppies.

There is your problem.
Not that you were too close, it's that you suck at stoppies.
I don't think Cam doesn't have a problem with your acts per se, he has a problem with your double standards.

sounds like a good idea to me?
I mean what else do you do...sit there and let him ride your arse leaving you both in danger?
lightly touch the pedal, light up the brake light without any loss of speed and if he doesn't take the hint and back off within a few seconds then make sure you gtfo

Well, I actually think I'm a pretty safe rider. I have a loud exhaust because it came with the bike, and my previous bike was smaller, almost silent, and I was pretty invisible. I'm actually trying to quieten it down a bit. I turn high beam down when sitting behind cars for any time, but I'm sure as hell more visible in traffic and out on the road than I am on low beam. I lane split because everyone does, and what's the point of riding a bike, but I at least try to know when to get back in line. I pass at 140+ if the car is doing 100+, and I wait till the road is is clear before I do it. I don't overtake on double lines like many of my brethren because it scares people, is unnecessary, and often bloody dangerous, so I'll just sit and enjoy the scenery till I can get past without making a big issue of it. But when I do I'm noisy - maybe I should say sorry?
I'm very happy to be seen and noticed. I'm not trying to be annoying, but I'm sure it happens.
Time to rest my self righteous brain and hit the sack. This has been an enjoyable exchange of opinions. Must try it again sometime......

I agree tailgating isn't a very smart move... if you're on a bike and you come up behind another bike, the least you can do is move to the other side of the lane and stay in their mirrors, group convoy style.
IMO riding around with your high beam on is unnessesary, annoying as hell and distracting to other drivers. People who do it past me usually get a taste of my high beam to point out just how fucking inconsiderate it is to anyone else trying to use the road.

What the fuck are they thinking of...? If a 4-wheeler does that to me I assume he (more often she these days) is either asleep or wants to kill me.
You can't see properly. In 0.3 sec you can go from 5+ lengths behind and pass at warp speed, so it saves you SFA time.
All you do is annoy the shit out of most, scare the shit out of the nervous ones, and increase the chances of wearing someone's tyre tread pattern on your jacket.
A dickhead on a gixxer did this today when driving on a country road in a car. Sat 2 cm from my exhaust for ages, then cruised past at +0.3kph when able to do so, then finally accelerated when way in front. I was doing 100. I felt like putting my foot on the brake to scare him, but didn't want my paint scratched.
To anyone who thinks thay can outbrake a car.... and who can see through a Mack truck. It's wake-up time. Drop back, be friendly, don't give us all a worse name than we already have, .....oh, and live.

Thanks, Leroy.
We get pissed off if a car tailgates us - because everyone knows a bike can outbrake a car in the city.
We forget the visibility thing that means, behind a truck, our braking time increases by about a second (and at 100km/h that's 36m).
We also tend to forget that, over about 100km/h, a car can outbrake a bike.
I read your post as a healthy reminder from a healthy other forum member, thank you.
Ignore the haters. Or go to their open(ish) party coming up soon and masturbate in the fruit salad, like I'm gonna

Why? Unless it's total bumper to bumper slow moving traffic, the retard shouldnt be so close so that he could perform a colonoscopy on you.

Yeah, the high beam all the time thing...
Cars can see you, but they cant judge your speed when all they can see is glare. Im a low beamer.

Totally agree Leroy,
i have had the same thing several times from bikes , trucks and stupid friggen blondes on mobile phones in Hyundi Excels.
An issue most tailgaters don't realise is that the driver in front wil see you there and will be hesitant at hitting the brakes hard in the event of an emergency , because they know if they do you will be imbedded in the boot. Its on a similar level to sitting in the blind spot of a car and getting upset when they change lanes on you.

I'm gonna respond to this seriously and without sarcasm. Here goes.
Even though the bike is in the wrong by tailgating, brake checking may result in the bike crashing. We've already established that the bike is too close to respond in time so why add fuel to the fire by making the situation even more dangerous?

turn your high beam OFF. there is nothing worse than driving along and suddenly having highbeam straight into your eye in the middle of the day. and you wonder why people hate fucking bikes when you do fucked up shit like this. you are no more visible with high beam on than with low beam on during the day. yes people will look at you more, but thats only because they want to knock you off your bike and smack some common sense into your narrow minded little head.
And for the actual topic, yes people will sit up your ass. Ever thought of either speeding up or getting out of the way so people that arent brainwashed by the government can drive at a speed that is true to the conditions on the road not what some little power tripping prick sitting in his ivory tower dictats down to the "stupid" masses.

Meh. I ride around in the day with my high beam on.
Seems to stop stupid fucks turning in front of me at the last second. I'll continue to do it.
