Why is it that people love to post up about "squids" riding around wearing shorts/tshirt/thongs etc?? and then most of you go on to say: make sure you wear your gear etc..

its getting really obnoxious! your not their MUM!! i wear my gear because it is MY choice!!! Some people choose not to because it is THEIR choice- who are you to judge?! everyone that rides knows the dangers of not wearing protective gear so leave it alone. it doesnt impact your life any if people make a choice not to wear protective clothing. stop being a bunch of nannys... this is already a nanny state without you guys/girls adding to it.

    rant over

not being mums or nannys just that it is more to do with common sense than anything else

lets look at it if you come off your bike at 60kph wearing t shirt shorts and thongs what infuries will you sustain compared to leather jacket draggin jeans and boots ??

why are they called squids cause they have no common sense and yeah it is thier right to wear what they want lets hope they dont find out the hard way it was the wrong idea

Actually you dont know the damage that can happen untill you come off.

Name one person that has stacked it wearing shorts and thongs and still continues to wear no gear let alone walk...

would that reasoning be as easily applied to your telling other people not to "nanny" or tell other people what to do....

it would happen to affect one of us if we came to see some squid mangled with bad road rash etc whilst wearing stuff all gear, you imagine the scar that would mentally leave you for the rest of your life after seeing that first hand?

If someone turned up on a Fri nite ride wearing shorts and shirt im sure they'd be laughed at. Why? Because most of us have seen the grey stuff up close at one time or another and we know that it hurts...ALOT. One search on google will show up plenty of motorbike vids of ppl stacking it with hardly any protective gear on at all. Ive seen one vid of a guy (shirt/shorts/ NO helmet - must be a yank vid) doing a wheelie behind a moving car (the camera man is in the car) and he approaches the car with too much speed, hauls the anchors on, locks the front and dissappears beneath the boot. Yeowie!

suzukigsxr1000, everyone has an opinion about everything. Just take it with a grain of salt and dont get caught up in the 'nanny' posts that ppl write

after sliding down the road in jeans and a leather jacket, i'm glad i wore my gear.

i wonder what my shoulder and arm would look like if i was only wearing a singlet? (that's not dirt, that's road-rash)

i wonder what brendan's stomach would look like if he was only wearing a singlet? (both his hips got ground off, and he still needs to have dressings on them - the accident was in APRIL)

this is azathoth after he went bouncing down the road south of kalbarri - he was in jeans and a textile jacket - imagine what he'd look like in a singlet and shorts??

this is why i always wear my gear (even on 40C days i'm still in leather), you can do whatever the hell you want but you won't get sympathy from me.

Did I miss something ? Where did that rant come from ?

The only reason people say "wear your gear" is that as fellow riders they dont want to see another person badly hurt through something as simple as not wearing a jacket.

Its not a nanny thing. We have had a number of our members badly hurt and even a coupled killed and personally if telling someone to wear their gear helps to stop that...... then it can only really be a good thing.

I think your just confusing the fact that most of us care what happens to people with soapbox antics.
Some say he eats sidchrome for breakfast

Some say he only showers on even days of the week

Some say he put an R1 motor in a coffee machine

All we know is he's Hewie.

I hate squids because I'm a selfish bastard.

When a squid crashes, you have to wait around for the ambulance. You have to try and comfort them when they're in extreme pain. And then there's the screaming, that really gets on my nerves.

On the other hand, I've been out with people who have come off, told themselves off for riding badly, inspected the bike, mounted, and kept on riding.

So for the sake of not interrupting my nice ride, please wear your gear.
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Not one of these posts again ......

Please stop, and think about it for some time.

When someone is an ass and crashes in scarb beach surf uniform, it has an effect on YOU and me, and anyone who replied in this thread. Because we all are part fo the medicare sceme that has to look after such fuckwits, we all conform to road rules and regs that get reviewed based on statistics and crash investigations, insurace premiums are based on combined risk and payouts for last year and so on further down the line.

You may pay 1000 bux this year, and pay 1100 next year when a insured drivers makes a mistake and takes down a dipshit on a 1L wearing nothing more than king gee shorts and a bali singlet ...... in the end someone has to pay expences and payouts.

Not to mention when a grand sceme of things report is drafted up , the individual stats are lost in th wash .... so you get "last year 1200 bikes crashed, 32 were DOA , and 600 recieved hospitalisation. Of those 600, 430 of these were in or around the 60kph zone mark, therefore its in greater interest to lower the speed limits to 30kph".

Ontop of that they tie up the system of St John that could be treating someone who is having a stroke or heartattack a couple kms away .... then hospital beds and rehab centres.

So is it as you say "THEIR" choice ?. Is it still obnoxious to read ?. Doesnt effect you huh ? .....

    Think again.

if we were to apply that mentality.. should the message be "dont be a squid and ride a motorcycle".
