Buying a bike from another state from private seller

Looking for info on buying a bike from over east from a private seller. I'm looking for a registered agent/company that acts as a go between to transfer the cash and ship the bike so that I don't get ripped off by sending cash and never seeing the bike. Anyone know of such a company/agent. I've been trawling the forum and internet but not turned anything up apart from bike shipping companies.
    Cheers

maybe i am gifted but i just bought a VTX 1300 off ebay, it was a repair job and i dont know anyone in Vic who could check it out for me. I had it transported over by just bikes as they were the most referred and are a specialist.
I paid a deposit and the guy asked me just to pay when it arrived and i was happy.. which i am
Depending on the bike, you may find a forum specific to that bike or make that you can join and have a local member check it out for you. buyibg from Ebay gives you protection ffrom scams like that.
Good luck and hope you get what you want at a good price.
Just for your info, the cost to ship the bike from victoria ( about 150km from CBD ) to joondalup was $970

Also make sure you do a check that its not been a write off or stolen, the eastern states have a site you can go to but you need the VIN number and it costs around $10, no point spending good money then finding out its pinched or unregisterable

I just sold a cb1000f to a bloke in broken hill.
I sent a pic of my NSW drivers licence to them along with my landline phone number that is listed in the white pages.
The people were very trusting but luckily I'm pretty honest with any bikes I sell. I took pics of every small (or large!) bits of damage., offered to upload videos of the bike running etc. I found the buyer through ebay.

Angelics right: watch out with buying a bike from interstate as theres new stat write off laws. if its a stat in NSW it cannot be registered anywhere in Oz. When I checked online about the replacement to the REVS site I'm sure it said something about they check if theres finance or WOVR but not if its stolen! I may be wrong though.

I go to the auctions in Sydney and buy and sell bikes and parts thru ebay and have sent several bikes overseas and interstate. I usually use 'just bikes' or 'bikes only' in sydney for here in oz. if its around the east coast I just trip around in my transit van with a bed in the back for when I get tired!

If anyone wants I can check bikes out for them if they are between Kempsey on the mid north coast NSW and Sydney. it would have to be on one of my Sydney runs though, as I live in Port Macquarie half way between Sydney and Brizzy. I can check out the engine etc and take pics of damage etc. you'll have to check out the legals of WOVR listing etc as there are now fees for this, before you could just ring REVS but thats all changed now. Govt's always out to scam a buck! just PM me if you need any info etc...
    cheers!

I used 1300 move a bike i think its called. I gave them the bank cheque, they than did an inspection but ONLY to ensure you were buying the correct bike off the registered owner and than that the bike matched the description. I asked the inspector personally to check for extra damage. The inspector him self will ring you on site after the inspection is done and get your go ahead to pay for bike and take it away than and there. I think this cost 500 plus 1000 for the transport back to Perth.

I did as many checks as i could to make sure it wasn't stolen or written off. The more contact details you get of the bloke the better.

When I bought the shadow from Gympie I asked a local member of the shadow forum to check it out,3 of them went
at the weekend, reported back and also gave their opinion of the seller.Wish I had done that 3 yrs ago with a Harley I bought
    from a dealer in Ballarat.

    Unless it is a rare/vintage/classic vehicle, I wouldn't bother.
Aside from dealing with a private buyer (no recompense if the bike is a piece of shit), the shipping and pit charges will be pretty high as well.
Honestly not worth the time or effort.

I bought a Harley off an old guy in Geelong about 5 years ago. It was a LOT cheaper than buying one here, even allowing for the approx $1000 to ship it here. It was a '98 Fatboy with only 1965km on the clock! !0 years old and not even properly run in. I spoke to the owner on the phone and organised for him to ride it to Geelong HD where they did a compression test and a few other things to check it out. Once they gave it the go-ahead I paid $20 000 for it and the owner left it at Geelong HD for the courier to collect it. The same bike here in Perth at the time was at least $25 000. I saw a few and they all had way more ks on them. I could have sold it here as soon as it arrived and made $4000. Perth is expensive for used bikes.

I got my '82 Suzuki GS1100 from a bloke in rural NSW. The same bike here would go for at least $2500. I paid $1500 plus $900 for shipping and got the bike I wanted. It's crazy what bikes sell for here.

How much are you going to pay to have it inspected and freighted? You can fly over, inspect youself, haggle the guy, have a roadtrip and still be ahead.

I bought my Monster 1100S from Peter Stevens in Melbs. Overall they were pretty easy. They organised delivery through Just bikes, who did a superb job. I was pretty confident in the purchase - a dealer by law can only sell clear titled and registered bikes (unless its wholesale to another dealer). There were just no "S" for sale in WA. It only had 3000km on it and it was first registered in 2010. So not much of a punt. Price was great, as they don't warrant the bike outside the state, so for the price I got it here delivered, it was less than what the equivalent second hand standard versions were going for. Got my ohlins and marchesini's for FREeeee....

Scozza just curious to know how much you haggled them down? I'm also looking at eastern states dealers. The bikes i'm looking at are around $11-$12k.

    Thanks

oops, sorry for the delay. I just noticed this one. Bloody end of financial year stuff has kept me away from PSB. For the asking price, I got the bike delivered here to Perth included, and another $500 less. I spent a few years in the car industry though, so I'm used to the haggle and negotiation techniques. Just be straight with them - give them a serious offer. Say you can leave a deposit over the phone today and sign a contract over fax/email.
