Old pieces of crap...... umm i mean vintage bikes and or race bikes are a very diffent story to a modern bike. You will also have to pay GST when it lands you also need to prove to Dotars that you are the actual owner ie you need to pay for the bike and have a reciept before its shipped. The Biggest hurdle to getting it registered is ADR's and its a bit more involved than and KM/h speedo and headlights that dip to the left major part been emissions and Australia has adopted the Euro 3 standards. If it gets caught in customs storage it will cost you lots so make sure you have it all sorted out before you hand over cash. Dotars are the people to see though.

Have a look at the condition of the OEM Honda crate I shipped my bike from Canada in. It got battered to fuck in sea freight. Bike survived alright, be careful who ships it if you do go this route.

How is your money insured? Unless you a re dealing with an agent in Australia. Once they have your money I think you might be in trouble? Why cant they get more then $5k in China and not have to spend the freight?? good luck mate.

Can't you do a personal import and register it locally if it is a 1989 model or older?

I'm with Dubs & Desmo on this one. I have a few mates who have gone the import route with cars & there is a lot of mis-information out there. Good luck with it & make sure you post up once the dust's settled. It should make for some interesting reading.

^^ if its anything like cars, you won't be able to do it.

Ask the DPI, but for CARS (i would presume all registered vehicles are the same) if the model was locally delivered, then it may not be imported and registered for road use. Not sure if you can even import it, but you certainly can not register it.

The only way around that is to prove that you were living in the country for 12 months or more and owned the vehicle over there, and then you may do a special "personal import".

Yes, the law is this way to protect the local dealer industry.

As to why you may see S15 200SX/Silvias and R32 GTRs imported - only the ones that were built on dates BEFORE the aussie models were delivered are eligible - or those that meet the "1989 or older" rule (used to be the 15 year rule - anything 1989 or older doesn't need any special compliance to be registered).

Most definitely check into it *fully* before committing to anything.

Track bike probably - but if you were to ever attempt to register it, you'd have no compliance plate.
