    Changing grips. Tips?

I'm just about to remove the factory grips from the gixxer and replace them with a set of gel grips. Does anyone have any advice on what can be done to make this process as easy as possible? The factory ones are stuck on fairly securely!

    1. Cut them off if you don't want them.
    2. Air compressor.
    3. WD-40 with the tube + the blunt end of a wooden skewer.

I've just thought of something. Suzuki makes a specialised throttle tube with a plastic ridge on it, and OEM Suzuki grips have a channel incorporated into them to accommodate the ridge. If you are keeping the OEM throttle tube and want to fit aftermarket gel grips you might need to cut the ridge off using a dremel tool or razorblade.

Assuming you want to keep your OEMs,

    - Air compressor is best, stick it in the tube, blow the air and slide it off.
    - If you dont have one, stick a small screw driver in between the grip and bar, spray some WD-40. Work your way around the whole bar, and it should slide out easily enough.

Cut them off then use KY Lube to put new ones on.

cut them off, ditch your throttle tube and buy a new one for your new grip.. put the grips on by lubing them with contact cement - the contact cement will help you get them on and then make them stick to the bar/tube so they don't spin around

i hit the inside of the new tubes with some spray paint which acts as a lube to slide them on and dries to make a weak glue.

Run a Phillips screwdriver round the inside of the old to ones to loosen, if you have an air compressor, blast air up the inside and it should glide off.

Same with fitting, blast air inside the grip. Add hair spray to lube but also to help stick.

Don’t glue on, makes a mess next time you replace them.
I don’t ride to get to the end, I ride for that moment

Hop scotch, skip rope, tunnel ball & football, all the same to me
If you cant ride it or fuck it, then its not sport

depends how much time you want to spend getting all the glue/crap off the old throttle tube so that the new grip a) slides on easy enough and b) has no bumpy bits under it..

new tubes are a few dollars and im sure the suzuki shop would have some in stock or be able to get them within a day or two.

Use Hair spray to put the new ones on. The hair spray when wet is slippery so it makes it easy to put on then dries stricky so will stop them from slipping.

i am in agreeance here. cmon guys if we all started on the pedal power and changed our grips on our bmxs' with newies, of course you would grab dads wd-40 nozzle and mums hairspray. in fact i still got some CEDAL brand in the workshop at home.

hairspray its effective cheap and realtivley easy.

Another plus 1 for the hairspray, got to be the easiest and cleanest way to pt on new grips.

Just cut the old ones off.

Wow, that search thing does work.

I use gorilla grips sometimes to tie the bike down and it screws up the grips. Pulls them up hard against the switch gear.

I just used the compressor to help align them again. Awesome tip! Took a couple of seconds and zero effort.
They were so tight I didn't even need anything to stick em back down again - although an old friend also swears by hair spray.

    Thanks.
