DPI has fined me for not transferring bike
BUT I HANDED IN THE FORM MYSELF!!!
I have been waiting for a long time for my stamp duty invoice to come in the mail from buying my bike. Today I got home to find a letter from the DPI. "bout bloody time" I think. But upon opening the letter, I find an infringement notice for failing to transfer the bike within 28 days of an extra $100.
The thing is, I handed in the form to the DPI myself, well before 28 days. And I also posted the sellers form for the guy i was buying from on the same day...
So where do I stand on this? What can I do...

This kind of shit happens all the time. Don't panic. Don't get angry at the bozo on the other end of the phone. Explain what happened. Have the date, time and location you handed the form in written down next to the phone.
If bozo #1 can't/won't help, ask to speak to their supervisor. Repeat as required.
You should be fine.

Exactly.
Be prepared to repeat yourself... without raising your voice.

When I bought my GPX I went back to the DPI after 28 days to ask why I hadn't received the notice yet (i.e. to make sure they wouldn't fine me).
They told me back then that some of the forms don't get processed for months
So yeah, explain the situation and tell them when and where you handed the form in, they should sort it out for you.

They'll probably use the, "we're not obliged to send you a notice for the stamp duty or transfer, we only do it as a courtesy" line.
Go in if you can.
Take matches.

go front them, they had a drivers lic{mine} 2 vehicle transfers and an immobilizer form out standing from me.
total of $250 in fines they wanted from me.
some data entry {insert idiot} person there had me move houses even though i didnt
i stood at the counter and asked for the supervisor .
not a word from them or an apology, but the fines got waived , oh and they sent me an official change of address form to put on my licence.
looked a bit weird cause i moved from my address to the same address.
bless em.........

Hopefully they do.. I was told that it was my responsibility to to chase them up before the 28 days where up. Which i didn't. I spoke to bozo on the phone and bozo's superviser to no avail. They are of the notion that they sent me the notice, but i never received it which they say is my problem entirely... which sucks big bad hyundai drivers.......!!!!!

Good luck with this. I had the exact same thing happen with my car. Wrote to the minister and everytihng, and basically the answer i got, in a lot more words, and using government wankery, was "Its not on our system, therefore, regardless of if you get a statdec from the pope himself (who clearly wouldnt lie, except about him really being the Emperor) we will not be letting you away with the fine". It then said: "PS. Given that 28 days has now elapsed (even though the fine was "put on hold" pending the review at day 12 (when it comes off hold they just add all the days back on) you also owe us $120, not $100".
I have never had the mispleasure of dealing with such a bunch of fools in my entire life, and i worked for a major federal govt dept in my yoof. I'd rather deal with smackheads yelling at me chasing dole cheques than with DPI. At least smackheads make a sort of drug needing sense.
I changed address during the time, and they failed to update my address. I had a photocopy of the form on which the address was changed (the transfer paper) and they said "nah, thats not an official change of address". Not that it mattered, the old address was my parents, and it definitely did not arrive.
