Zero Motorcycles (Australia) || Zero S Electric Motorcycle

I wonder if they deliberately made the top speed 88mph

Would be a wicked commuter. Less than $5 a week to run (if you needed a full charge very day), no maintenance, not even a chain to lube/tension.

Gives me hope, sounds like fun..!

The quietness would make me uneasy, as others don't hear you coming. Though if Aussies loosened up and didn't want to stick a knife down your throat for using the horn, this might not be a problem

Shit, amazingly cheap. Just not sure on the recharge part... Once I get to work where do I charge it to get home again? Will definitely keep an eye on it though once the range increases.

    Range is 100 miles.

    Surely that could be better.

With better, more expensive batteries, it could be. Otherwise, it will meet the needs of most for their commute.

160kms to a charge is more than i get from a tank of fuel, only difference is the time to ride off again when empty

Can someone enlighten me on charger systems? Do they just plug into your standard residential plugs and then have a different plug/adaptor at the other end for the vehicle's particular system, or do you need something wired in that would therefore not be able to be transported with you?

But I suppose if you could 'fill up' once a day in your garage at home, it would be less of an issue.

    I'm not sold. 88mph (~140kmh) seems... slow.

Spuddy - but it should get there quite quickly. Off the line they should be plenty fast enough.

    Dear Zero Motorcycles...

You are close, so fucking close to having my money...

I can just live with your wet weight, but please try to trim a bit off it...

Range and speed need to come up a little, then it's a done deal...

    Motard style please...

Oh, and none of this "soft start", give me all that torque and let me control it...
Sonik, orazzal and Jon1 like this.

for some reason reading these words brought back memories of a particular high school staircase and a motorcross bike....

it would be even more fun in stealth mode

I like it, would also almost love one. Is there any real reason they don't or can't do removable batteries? I'm just seeing a dream future where the servo does a battery swap like gas bottle exchange and off you go again fully charged.
Have all e vehicles with standard size batteries and you just say get 2 for a motorcycle and 6 for a car or whatever

Or am I missing some reason it can't be done?

Could be done but would take forever to introduce and you'd have various companies all trying to make their battery the universal one.

the electric bikes are getting better and better but they are still a long way to go.
it was good to see a major manufacturer like ktm come out with their own version called the freeride i think,i like the idea of a quiet offroad bike or quad just think sunday afternoon races in a large backyard or 5 acre property with out driving next door mad or maybe a couple of hours trick riding at the skate park or a enduro loop around kings park with an electric hire bike for a lunch time blast before going back to work[yeah i know it will never happen but i can dream].
battery development is whats needed and i believe one day they will get it to a level i would consider one untill then i will continue to make niose but will watch closely.

    cheers dale
