Faulty red light camera on orrong??

    Hello my fellow PSBers!

Ok so I have a little dilemma! I have been flashed by the red light camera on orrong rd just up from Kewdale rd, twice in the last week. The lights were green and I was doing around 65kms both times(speed limit is 70kms, I went back to check haha). It seems to only happen when it is dark (unless I just don't notice it during the day). Is there anyway my 2010 Ninja, which has less then 3000kms on it, could be so far out? or is there any other explanation? In the fist flash there was other cars going through at the same time but the second time I was the only one going through.

I'm stressing please tell me my bike couldn't be out by that much!

Don't worry about it, nothing will come of it if you weren't speeding

There are heaps of threads in here about the same issue with other red light cameras around town, so DON'T STRESS

pretty common, there have been a few threads on it, best answer i saw was that the wheels being closer together on a bike upsets the computer which uses the induction loop sensors in the road and sets off the flash, when the picture is reviewed at fines enforcement they see/calculate the real speed and you don't end up with a fine.
Do you remember the good old days before the internet?

when arguments were only entered into by the physically or intellectually able.

I had this happen 2 days ago at South St/Roe Hwy. Was doing 62 km/h as im always aware of my speed through that camera, and it still flashed me on a green light.

Does it photograph Kewdale Rd or Orrong Rd? Also is it new?

I used to go through there all the time up until a few months ago, never noticed it.

Its Orong rd and Pilbara st intersection,

I go through it every day on the bike, and been flashed heaps, I just ride through it at 60 and never had a fine,

Today however there was one less light pole, big car accident very early in the morning, shame they didnt take out the camera insted, hope there okay.

Happened to a bunch of us at the fixed camera on Guildford by the lights at Tonkin Sth exit/entrance. None of us saw a fine either, just all got flashed when we went through green under the 60kph limit. Stoopid technology!

yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about it, I've been flashed by fixed cameras heaps of times.. Cameras seem to like flashing for no reason - maybe just to keep people on their toes?

Ive read all the posts here and in various threads about this and other intersections where bikes get pinnged becuse of the short wheelbase. I've got to say i havent had this issue or been flashed once. I travel through this intersection nearly everytime i hop on the bike and I can say if this was an issue i would definately have been done by now.

Ive got a 08CBR and combined with my weight and riding gear I probably go over the pressure plates at about 280kgs and dont get flashed. Maybe anything over a certian weight gets flashed?

Good to hear that the "new" traffic lights have failed to fix the clusterfuck that is that intersection.

I have no idea what causes it but it happens and if you're worried about your bike speedo Mishyy get someone with a GPS in their car to maintain 60k/hr (read from the GPS) and speed match them to check yours. I doubt it would read wrong but it is possible. The cameras record video and still images so that the offence can be checked before an infringement is sent and afaik nobody on a bike has been fined for going at or under the limit (or they have never come back to their thread to complain )

If I had to guess why they false trigger I'd go with the bike only changing the leading loop (closest to the stop line) inductance slightly (as opposed to a larger vehicle) and the second loop being triggered by a false signal. I thought at first it might be the wheelbase but then I've never seen a truck get flashed at or below the limit and their trailers have a shorter wheelbase than a bike, which lead me to think that it is triggered only by the time difference between the detection at the leading and trailing loops.

The traffic light and camera sensors do NOT detect vehicle weight. Nobody digs up the road to put a giant set of scales under there. The way vehicles are detected is the same way a metal detector works but instead the detector is buried and your bike/car is the metal being found.

Oh good I was shitting myself last night. I was driving along Orrong, west-bound, in a semi and the camera flashed twice - presumably once for the double rears on the truck and once for the triple axle trailer. Was only doing about 55-60kph ( lights had just changed to green ) and it was dusk about 8pm. Hopefully nothing comes of it.

Hmm ok. So nothing to do with weight.

Yep. It's also why if you want the lights to change for your bike you will need to pull up on the lines of the boxes cut into the road (but not on the middle one in the grease or you could crash ).
If you (or anyone else) still have trouble with them you can PM me with details of the intersection, direction of travel and lane(s) you are having problems with and I'll suss it out when I'm on night shift.
