    Fender regulations - Reflector?

Will be getting a bike relicensed this week.

Have made a DIY fender out of a plastic container lying around.

Does anyone know if a red reflector is required to be mounted on the fender? I've noticed ones on stock mudguards of other bikes. I see Calculus on this forum also mounted a red reflector to his fabricated fender.

    Search?

yea you need a reflector. a few people have had warnings for it on here.

mate at work got off a yellow for an eliminator because he had the reflector on the bottom of his numberplate.

I had mine cut off, but the stock reflector was still in place (se photo), just under the tail light. I still got booked. I then made up a fender from a spare chainsaw guard which got me over the pits.

You need a reflector, it needs to be 25 square cm, so 5x5cm, 8x3 etc.

I think it also needs to be a certain height off the ground, but I can't remember what it is.

In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

I think you need orange side reflectors too?

Someone will correct me I'm sure.

    Thanks guys.

Barfridge, I'll just measure it against another stock bike with a reflector fitted and put it at the same height.

Interestingly I don't think Phildo's oil-bottle fender had a reflector fitted and yet it passed.

Mine's made from the sides old square buckets bolted together with huge spacers to clear the rear tyre. I assume they have to pass it as it will comply with the 45 degree rule and is sturdily mounted, but my god it's a hack job and a half.

I just have to remember not to load up the rear too much on the way to the licensing centre so it doesn't get eaten by the rear tyre haha.

mate of mine told me of a pit-job where the guy put a reflector on the end of a plastic ruler and just hung it off the back of the bike.

I had to laugh when he said "you know I'm going to take it off as soon as I pass the inspection?"

The Reflector. When I first took my Rocket in for WA Registration my life-saving reflector was missing and the inspectors casually mentioned after passing the bike that I should "sometime soon" go and buy a bicycle reflector and fit it near my rego plate. Too easy.

It's one of those minor details we shouldn't overlook though, cos one day an angry plod might just use that legal requirement to ensure full pineapple insertion. Dot the i....
