AN 18-year-old Kambalda man is the first person to be charged under Western Australia's revised hoon laws, after eye-witnesses dobbed him in to police.

Police charged the man with reckless driving on information provided by a witness.

Police allege the man was driving an unregistered Holden Commodore at excessive speeds in Kambalda about 5.15pm on Monday.

Witnesses told police that the sedan was also driven into the bush with the rear fish-tailing and raising a dust cloud before it struck a ditch and became airborne.

A complaint was lodged within 15 minutes and witnesses provided a police statement the next day detailing their observations and concerns.

Police went to the driver's house on Tuesday afternoon and charged him with reckless driving, driving without a licence and driving an unregistered vehicle.

His Commodore was impounded for 48 hours and he is due to appear in the Kambalda Magistrate’s Court on May 15.[/b]

i hate this shit- you lose your license and car for doing a skid, yet if you pull out in front of someone or change lanes into them- fuck all. I know which is more dangerous

Yah. Gonna get my pencam back from Justo and ride up and down the freeway (trying to stick to the speed limit) and get footage of road ragers and other bad behaviour.

i guess so long as there is no smoke or squealing noises coming off the tyres, its perfectly fine to park your cars like that^ outside the front of my house

any more info on this? is there any evidence or just a statement?

i'd hate to think that they would just take the word of one person over the word of another but then again, it is WA after all..

Can't be, there aren't any traffic lights at Kambalda (seriously).

This new hoon law seems to have a "gulity until you prove yourself innocent" flavour to it.

The "driving without a licence and driving an unregistered vehicle" might have had a lot to do with it and Kambalda being the size it is the cops probably knew of him anyway.

    Before you go too silly...

To make a report, you need to have observed the 'hoon' act take place. You also need to have some kind of proof (photo, video) and be willing to front court about it.

I think making mass contributions of people for hoon behaviour is the right thing to do, but taking down every plate, description and making false statements doesn't help anybody actually fix the system.

Like I said before, a camera on the helmet, narrate every dangerous thing you see, cut the video into individual complaints and take them all in demanding something be done about it. That'll be the way to shoot down this stupid friggin' idea.
