Ok, i guess now is the time i gotta start learning....
But I don't feel too bad, cause unlike deza, I know what a gasket is before i start! (Teehee... sorry babe)
Anyway, other than that I know nothing.\
I want to start looking at some 250's to give me an idea of what's out there for me to buy in a few months when I save up enuf dosh.
    Basic requirements....
I want a sports bike, no compromise
Something desinged for short people (so i can touch the ground)
    Something that looks good
And something I won't spend a fortune on cause I know that you shouldn't spend alot on the first bike cause touch wood, chances are it's gonna end up having some lying on the pavement time.
Anyone got an suggestions of where to start looking?
Also, what's the difference between a Honda CBR250 and an NSR250 (I like both but the cbr is a bit pricey)
And one more thing.... for something decent (ie. not crashed and in general good working order, hold old should I not go over - if that makes sense... 10 years???) Thanks all

cbr250 is a 4 stroke 4 cylinder, nsr250 is a two stroke, and most probably a vtwin engine (two cylinders). nsr would be faster, but it'd quickly take its toll in maintanence costs and shiz.

thought of a zx2? someones selling a black one in the fs forum, same specsish as a cbr, 4 cyl with about 40 hp, usd forks, big brakes (for a two fiddy), looks similar to the cbr (see my av)

edit: i wouldnt worry about not being able to touch the ground yet, im pretty sure you'd be able to on just about any two fiddy

You may even want to have a look at the smaller NSR's. Jenna seems to be having a ball on hers!!

I dont remember you being that short, have only seen you once tho. If your my height (168cm, with short legs.. doh!), you should be able to ride whatever 250 you want.

    Edit:
Thanks for reminding me Cowasaki.. GO DA GPX!!
(not as pretty as some of the other 250s I must admit but it drops/crashes better. Go da oggie indicators!!)

Im not trying to be negative here so dont take this the wrong way but if thats your thinking then thats more than likley what will happen, when i got my first bike i was fully aware of the risks involed with riding roadbikes and knew that accidents can happen to anyone at anytime but i never went out for a ride thinking chances are im gonna crash today.

That's fair enuf, and point taken.... but I don't think like that. BUt I do think i'm stoopid to think it'll neva happen to me and with the attitude that I have now I think it makes me over cautious - which especially with a bike i don't think is a bad thing. In my lessons I put steve's bike on the ground more than a couple of times. I don't mean that I think i'll go flying down the road (at least i hope not) but learning to do slow stuff i think learning to balance on a new thing is hard (well for me anyway). I don't go out thinking i'm gonna crash today.... i just go out with an open mind and a gotta be careful attitude, cause you neva know what is gonna happen when.

When I first learnt to drive I basically got taught that it isn't uncommon for new drivers to have an accident in their first year cause of the inexperience and most of the people around me i knew had had that happen with them and it made me extra aware and extra concerned cause i didn't want it to happen to me. Then the day that i took my p plates off my car was kinda a relief... i ad more experience and had made it through the year only taking out our rubbish bin a couple of times.

I guess i just am aware of my inexperience and the fact that (god forbid) it could happen, i don't think this makes me project bad karma on myself.... just more cautious. I guess being a nurse prolly does that to me as well. So like when i learnt to drive i think it'll be a few months riding with someone around all the time before i go out on my own.... god knows the amount of near misses i had in my first six months driving if my mum hadn't made me have someone with me all the time.

    Just my 2 cents.

Sport bike, low cost, never dropped. Your looking for the 250 that doesn't exist.

Seriously, most of the sports 250s are going to cost you. They are performance *cough* bikes and to keep them running _properly_ it'll cost you.

Most 250s have been dropped. I've looked. If they haven't been dropped, they want too much for them.

As has been said in the post, the CBR is a four stroke whilst the NSR is a two stroke. The 2 stroke will be much faster but will cost a lot more in maintenance (I have a two stroke, so I know how much of a hole they burn in the wallet). For what its worth, I never saw an NSR for sale when I was looking for a 250 to buy.

Weren't you the one saying you weren't that confident riding yet? If so, get something easy to ride like a ZZR250 or a GPX250. Forget a CBR/NSR etc if you're not confident.

hold on with the 2 stroke bashing.

terrible learner bikes true. having said that my first bike was an rgv and i loved it.

on 2 strokes its all about preventative maintenance and good oils. if you do want to buy one, look for ones thats been well cared for and you should be fine.

the other advantage of 2 strokes is how simple they are, really easy to work on yourself and quite enjoyable (if your that way inclined)

edit: your bike would also be quicker than deza's

I'm not bashing 2 strokes. I proudly own an RGV 250, and it is my first bike.

However I am more than happy to point out that while they are a lot more fun than a four stroke 250, they do cost more to keep running and they do have a strict maintenance schedule.

I bought mine with that in mind anyway, but not everyone knows it and it is worth keeping in the back of you mind when buying a _low_ cost bike.

See to me a stroke is a blood clot in the brain that leaves you pretty much fucked!
And why is a 2 stroke quicker than a 4.... i'd think it would be the other way around!
