    Greg Pretty killed RIP

Ex Aussie Champ Greg Pretty was killed this afternoon in a head on collision with another rider, who also died. Greg was riding in the Southern Adelaide ranges with his mates when a rider coming the other way ran wide and onto the wrong side of the road, they collided head on, killing them both.

Greg won the Australian Unlimited Championship in 79, the Duke of Edinburgh Award in 79, and countless production superbike races. He showed me the way round Phillip Island in 08 & 09, he was a lovely bloke and the fastest and smoothest rider I have ever ridden with. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and freinds. He will be greatly missed and I am honoured to have known him.

    Rest In Peace Greg Pretty.

rip , sick of hearing about another biker going wide and taking out one or more lives doing it. This sort of riding should be left to the racetrack then we wouldnt be losing such legends of the motorcycling world in such ridiculous circumstances. Atleast he left doing what he was good at and loved most likely

I should clear this up now.

I found out today that the rider who ran wide was another local called Moston. He had many years of touring under his belt, and was by no means inexperienced or likely to of been riding beyond his skill level. I have ridden on the road with him and he too was fast, smooth and serious about his riding. Niether of them would of been under the influence of anything, and they both had respect for the road. Any judgement is pure speculation, unless we were there, we don't know what really happened.

I, and almost everyone I ride with or work with in the industry, will miss one or both of them.

Got the 'phone call at midday yesterday - what crap news! I've known Greg since 1976, and spent a fair bit of time with him at Phillip Is. He was an amazing rider, and really lived for it. We all ride that road over here, never expecting to encounter a 'fellow motorcyclist'.
At least he died doing what he loved. Doesn't make it any easier for those who were used to having him around. Sure knew the quick way around a racetrack.
    RIP

Should update this thread in the light of further information. Some of the above posts put one rider at fault - as did the police opinion aired in the news. It appears this may have been an unfair judgement. Let's not get into blaming one party or another.
Anyone who knows or has ridden with Greg knows he 'pushed the envelope'. Even though he was apparently on his old Honda 4, he will have been going along fairly well.
Given that the other rider has now been named in this thread, I would urge everyone to let time pass, and the facts emerge, before passing judgement. If the police expressed an opinion apportioning blame which was then broadcast on the TV news, and were subsequently proven to be incorrect, then that only adds insult to injury for those affected.
I believe the funeral for GP will be this Saturday - no time yet - at Berry funerals. (I will be working and probably unable to attend, which is not great).
