Thanks for the swift reply,I will be pleased to know the best basic price and i want you to get back to me with more picture of the bike because i am presently on a business trip and i could not come over to check it out,but no worries as i am willing to handle the pick up of this bike through my legitimate agent in malaysia,it will be picked up after payment, so i really need to know the mode of payment.
Hope to read from you asap

Dont send the bike, the scam is they steal an account, pay you the money, you ship the bike, the bank then finds out the money has been transfered illegally and reverse the transaction and your left with no money and no bike.

One of the scams requests you use paypal, and then claim the bike wasn't as advertised and claim back on paypal buyer protection.

How many legit sales are made buy a buyer who buys sight unseen? If someone is overseas normally they would get a friend to at least look at it.
How rare is the model? Sight unseen may happen if its extremely rare.

Maybe we should make up a scarecrow bike to sell to the scammers? word the add so nobody in their right mind would buy it, but someone who was not interested in the bike, just the deal would fall for it.
Word the ad "i'm working off shore and need to sell my bike... it was in good nick when i saw it last 18 months ago - I left it with a mate and he said he would give it a run occasionally, he said it is still in good condition - prefer paypal as i'm not back in australia for another eon"

... even after adding another $3500 i got a reply...

    ------------------------------------------------------------

i am really interested in buying it and i want to go ahead with the purchase,i am please with the price but i can only conclude the transaction through paypal for our own protection, they act as a neutral third party. it is safe, secure and reliable.and also due to the fact that i am on a business trip, that is what safe and convenient for me.thanks

Can't be that easy to detect if you had to ask if it was legit.

Scams generally work on the basis that the person being targeted is either desperate or gullible and they want to believe it's true, even if it's too good to be true.

In your case, you want to sell your bike...so you want to believe the buyer is legit. Fortunately, you were smart enough to ask the question. Presumably, the people that fall for these scams think Paypal is a safe way to transact so even it is a scam they will have the money...not so true.

Yeah, i had one of these last week, exact same emails. Its pretty obvious when the text message on your phone comes from a number that starts with +123 though. They even contacted me after the first email to say that the address they sent it from has been spammed, so I should send replies to their new address instead. They were interested in the superduke, so I sent them a bunch of pics of a Suzuki dirt bike that has been stripped for offroad and is worth around $1k. They must not have opened the pics or anything, because they replied straight away asking for my paypal details (which of course I didn't provide).

What Melchior said. He would have had you hook, line and sinker by the looks of it if you hadn't asked the forum.

Common and regular scam for car and bike sellers. What fucking idiot would buy a regular production bike or car from overseas when it can be purchased locally. My sister got one of these offers from someone 'working at sea/oil rig/nigeria/in a submarine' and had to ask if it was legit.

These people are a waste of space this is how you waste a scammers time:

Tell them that it's money into your own account or cash. I won't use Pay Pal. Then advise interstate buyers that you will only ship it through a recognised brand name transport company with insurance, etc.

You could add this as a line to your advertisement to prevent the scammers contacting you at all.

Get a second opinion, or maybe just some real news.
