the guy is a fucking tard***.

you can't do a lot to prepare for the impact from either one - in a high side you're just along for the flight - in a low side your concentration is best off preventing the low-side from occurring in the first place (steer bike back up, use knee or whatever - when you feel the front washing out).

I defy ANYONE to anticipate and prepare for a high-side - if you anticipate it then you should be able to prevent it happening in the first place - they're quick, violent and nasty. the fact that you high-sided at all means you *didn't* anticipate the event properly.

    yes, i've highsided.

    edit:
*** either that, or he VASTLY over-estimates his in-flight ability and state of mind during the crash. my experience in a *low speed* high-side was something like:

    - oh fuck!
    - eat pavement

I'm really not experienced but when he mentions 'time to brace for impact' it reminded me of ages ago when I was playing with a little peewee 50 on this circle path going around faster and faster until I sorta highsided it, last thing I remember is hearing the tyre sliding then suddenly I was flung over and my face was in the ground, I didn't consciously do anything but my reflex to put my arms out to protect my face ended up with me high fiving the conrete path with both hands which stung like hell So I can imagine actually highsiding a bike going well over a 100 would be brutal and lightning quick, not to mention the g force throwing your limbseverywhere.

"Time to brace for impact" means it gives you enough time to clamp your asshole shut so you dont shit yourself.

Has he forgotten that the bike generally follows the same parabolic path as you? and I dont know about you, but I dont like the idea of a 300Kg+ bike landing on top of you..

One high side was enough for me. You have no choice which part hits the ground first in a high side and in my case it was head first.
Then the hand which spent 3 mths in plaster cast. (12 december 1976 Baypark Race Track NZ)

The helmet is still in my shed it did its job and the lining is so compressed I cant even dig finger nail into the Polystyrene.
Sliding is fine in leathers unless you hit something that starts you tumbeling.

^^ yeah, even 100kg landing on your back (or chest), bar-end or peg first could be paralyzing/fatal - if you happen to be unlucky enough.

    fuck that.

Wait, what? So the video games were lying when they led me to believe I could move in bullet time when such things happen?

I'd rather have nothing but the tyres and occasionally pegs making contact with the ground... But if I have to crash it'll most likely be a case of being flung off the bike by some fuck head who neither head checks nor indicates anyway.

i remember when rossi almost highsided, was flung into the air, landed on one leg standing on the seat, hopped off the still snapping bike to land back on the seat and continue racing
