I feel your pain but, I came off a couple of months back due to gravel, not a nice feeling at all.

Love gravel in the car
Hate gravel on the bike
Hope there isn't too much damage and your ouchies heal quick!
Straight roads are for fast bikes - corners are for fast riders!

Hayabusas don't belong on the gravel fiy!

*speechless*
Well maybe not...
What a crap thread...need info needs pics...needs fucking something coz without it you get no sympathy...
Gravel is awesome learn to slide on it and you will never fear the strip of gravel on a country road or riding in the rain...

Went down Chittering road on sunday with my ZX6r, and there is a nice well marked section of gravel road! Was fun to practice some rolling burnout techniques!

hey, that looks like NZ shingle, absolutely the worst stuff to ride on. Makes blue metal aggregate feel like fly paper. Just done probably over a 100k's of the stuff on my recent trip. For the uninitiated, shingle is smooth, round river stones, like riding on ball bearings. NZ has an unlimited supply , so all unsealed roads are made with it.

Not from Bunno are ya?

Is this a dinkum thread? or are we gravely mistaken?
Like the pea gravel? No, I reckon it's worse on a bike. OK if it is really worn down to a hard base in the wheel tracks, just stay in them fer chriisakes and hope you don't need to change track. If it is freshly graded, the loose stone is distributed in an even layer all over and you are fucked. On Sunday morning we were heading for Christchurch airport, coming out of the block on shingle,in a cage, heading for bitumen. Came up behind a Harley , really struggling at 40km/hr, trying to stay on the hard bits. He had wandered over to the wrong side of the road, we sat 100 metres back, so as not to put any pressure on him. I have ridden that stretch many times, it's a bitch. A sharp crest was approaching, logging trucks and milk tankers come over that crest at 90km/hr all the time. He tried to cross the buildup in the middle of the road to get to the safe side of the road, I saw him get the wobbles up as the front plowed. He bottled it and elected to stay where he was. Going over a sharp crest on the wrong side of the road, rather than brave the bits of shingle worse than what he was on. Madness, but that is how hard it can be.![]()

Gravel + 40 km/h = too slow.
On a long wheel base, low COG bike I think I know what the problem is.
