    Helmet X-Ray Machine?

    Hi all,

I heard that there's a machine that can x-ray your helmet to see if it is broken on the inside. Does anyone know if there is one of these machines somewhere in Perth?

I have a shoei multitec and I had a small accident, i don't have any head injury, but i'm pretty sure my helmet hit the ground.

So i just want to check for sure if it needs to be replaced, as my travel insurance doesn't cover the full amount of a new helmet, and it's a lot to pay out if it's not neccessary.

Thanks in advance for any help

Any NDT test lab can probably look it over for you with their radiography gear. I can check with a mate for his work's details down in Kwinana if you don't get any easy answers.

How long have you had the helmet for??

1 year? 2 years? $2 day average for a year, just buy another one if you are in doubt, otherwise just use it, I've had a couple of minor offs, put small scrapes on the helmet and I'm not worried about it one bit.

If it was a major off then I'd bin it.

But yeh I guess you're been super safe having it tested

    How badly is it damaged.

If there is big gouges out of it it's probably time for a new one. If there is a few small specks of paint missing it'll be fine.

Also pull the liner out and see if any of the foam inside is crushed.

by the time you add the payout figure for a new helmet from your insurer to the cost of non destructive testing (NDT) you could probably have bought a new helmet.

if as you say the helmet hit the ground and you don't have head injuries then it has already done its job and what you paid for, trying to find ways to use it again could be seen as a symptom of head injuries
Do you remember the good old days before the internet?

when arguments were only entered into by the physically or intellectually able.

Sorry, just spoke with my mate and he reckons they can't do it - they can't turn down their machine low enough for a lid.

    thanks for all your responses!

I've only had it for a year, and there's not big gouges, just some scratches, but filbert is right - i don't have head injuries so it's done what i paid for originally!

next question - can you recommend a couple of good stores for helmet shopping? (pref in the wanneroo/north area but i can travel anywhere in perth)

    thanks!

Cully's Yamaha are pretty close by - well, in Balcatta. Not too far away from you.

They do have a very good range though. They stock Shoei, Arai, AGV, Shark, Icon, HJC (and every other 3 letter combination you can think of), Rjays etc. Definitely all of the major brands and most of the smaller ones to be honest.

If you say your on PSB, Aldo (used to Manage Helmet House in Vic Park) might even knock 10% (or more, depending on your spend) off...
