If you hit a decent sized dog at 150 km/h you'd stand a good chance of being badly injured. A Kelpie sized dog.

A medium sized Kangaroo... if I hit it in my car, I would not like my chances.

I hit a roo on welshpool rd near Lesmurdie SHS about a month ago. Crapped my dacks i did!

I was doing about 75kph, at about 7pm. The thing managed to clip the front guard, and sent the bike into a mighty wobble! When i pulled up and assessed the damage i found one tiny 2cm crack in the fairing with roo fur in it, and a missing indicator. The roo was MIA - presumably as shaken as I was.

I wouldn't have liked my odds had it been at 150 clicks tho!

I think you are spot on, consensus seems to be that they can certainly hear them, but are spooked and panicked, even more erratic than ever. Roos don't tend to move around a lot during the middle of the day, especially if it's warm, like to lie up in shade, but if they are near a road doing it, and you scare them....YMMV

going 140 at around 10pm on the brand hwy there was a big one on the side of the road, the HID hi beams had him stunned i think so dropped down to 90 and then gave up the heavy braking as he wasn't moving and went past. wow, braking at those speeds is intense, i think ESP [electronic brake handling thing in car] even kicked in

Have had quite a few close calls with roo's particularly coming home from NS at work in Wooroloo, thank fuck for the HID's on the BB I have been able to see them well ahead and haul the bike down to a walking pace

One of the guys from work got hit by a large roo up Spencer Brook Rd Wundowie in the middle of the day
He was doing about 110 with the missus on the back of his late 90's 900 Ninja and a roo just came out and collected them, wrapped itself around the bike, he went one way the missus went the other but they managed to stay on . Fucked up most of the panels on the bike though
I told him he needed to by a Lotto ticket

I have to run the gauntlet through roosville chittering most mornings and evenings and the thought of hitting one scares the living bejesus outta me. There's one seems to always be near the side of the road right near the last(best) corner before home. Bastard keeps my speed down every time.
Bugger about the rooshoo things, I was going to get one but perhaps I won't bother.

Sounds like a lucky escape man, would have been scary.

If you hit a roo at that speed its pretty much all over. I nearly cleaned up three black cokatoo's and was lucky I missed them all.
I didnt think you could get to 150klm in Roleystone, May I be so bold as to suggest a slower safer speed so you and your lady can actually see whats going on and enjoy the ride.

Both myself and the wife have had thousands of dollars of repairs to our cars on Nettleton Road due to speed limit collisions with roos - they are incredibly solid little buggers.

Lucky miss for ya. I had bit of a scare myself the other day riding along the estuary down here in Mandurah doing about 65km.....gave me such a fright thinking it was going to hit me when the roo popped out of the bushes. Not sure who was more startled....me or it.

Glad to hear nothing serious happened to you.

Like so many things, dependant on angle, velocity, size and luck.
Mine was a direct side on which, basically, took out the front wheel.
If it had of been a side glance, I may well have survived with a bit of an erratic wobbling.
Julimar Rd is not a good place to be at twilight - I've wacked 2 in the van in the last year - the roo bar is looking a little bent!

yeh its probably not the rolleystone u are thinking of, much more deeper in, i.e no houses around just bush and straights.

Sorry to revive the old thread but i just had a close call with a large sized Roo (same size as the 250)- was heading from Collie to Bunners at 9:30pm last night - it was about 3 degrees - and i figured all the Roos would be tucked up in bed by then. I was in the right wheel track and it was about 1.5m away in the on comming lane. The freaky thing was that it was facing the other way not moving (total camo) and i only saw it as i went past it... I slowed down after that and went and changed my pants....

No...its all about reducing your exposure time. 150 just may not be fast enough. I know all about physics...tomorrow travel at 170. I bet you don't hit one then, either.

If it hit the rear wheel i reckon you'd have a pretty good chance of staying upright.

    *however*

The chances of it clipping the rear wheel only at 150km/h are pretty fucking remote.

I'll go with the "if you hit a roo you might not be here any more" sentiment.

Depends on how direct the impact is, but yeah, it's going to hurt.

    edit:
As far as shoo-roos go, they work on wind creating a noise, right?

Wind that is dependant on your road speed. They're probably intended for 110km/h airspeed - if you're doing 200 the wind will probably push the frequency up above roo-hearing abilility and they'll be useless... food for thought...

I was going across the nullabor 3 years back in a mitsi pajero and we got hit by a medium sized roo @ 135ish an hour. our car literally moved parallel sideways from the force of the hit. 4k damage to the passenger door. company car so meant nothing to us
still, i doubt speed or gyroscopic effects would have helped. When a roo hass its head down and headin in ur direction, pray to whatever god u pray to and do what you can do avoid it.
