Keeping my Licence (some may remember)

    Hi again everyone..

I have not contributed to this forum in a while as i have been backpacking oversea's. So i hope you dont mind me picking your brains abit.... Who knows someone might learn something from my story:-) or at the very least have a good laugh at my expense.

Some might remember reading my noval on keeping my licence. ( keeping my license ) It seems i am a little to good at "keeping my Licence" I kept it right up until i left. A week before i left i payed my two fines. Maybe in my excitement of my upcoming travels or the victory of cheating the system going to my head, i did not think of actually being served the papers. ( having said that one of the fines could not be payed because a new one had been sent out but we wont go into that now)
So a month later my Brother is trying to pick up some mail from the post office doing his beast mattyv impersonation and they say that it has to be served in person by a nominated authority.

I am planning on being in europe for another 5months or so and the last thing i need when i got back to Australia is no licence when im looking for a job.
I'm sure that i might be able to get them to send it to an Australian embassy in the UK or in the Netherlands where i'll be having a brief stop in a couple weeks but anyone have any idea's of handling this without trying to get them sent over sea's?

    Thanx in advance guyz

oh oh, good luck with it, doubt they'd send it to the embassy, but if they did it would be less hassle surely?

Someone have power of attorney while you're away? You may be able to have them served in your stead...

Aus post would only have an "intention to serve" letter, that his brother picked up. Actual court appearance papers need to be served on/signed for by the named party. Not by his brother pretending to be him. Or something...

I thought they just served you and you have to go to DPI? That's what happened to me, I went through 2 x 12 points in less than a year. (Due to a dispute over 6 points on a DD long weekend - I got lucky)

Why can't you just go on double or nothing when you come back? You did the crime, why not pay the time? I did two years on double or nothing back to back and at the time I owned two turbos and a CBR, just get a decent laser detector.

I was suspended for three months before going on a four month holiday in 2006. I had to physically hand in my drivers licence to the Police for the 3 month ban to start. This wasn't possible until a few days after I had left (they wouldn't accept it earlier). I had to serve the 3 months after returning from holiday. Absolute nightmare.

Well it would have ben a lot easier to loose it while I was a way and come back to a clean slate but if that isn't possible double or nothing would be my only choice.

So I got an email back from.... mm not sure what section of DPI but it sounds like if I find a justice of peace or police staition that speaks very good English that agre's to help me out, I can get the papers faxed to them and than served:-) might be a way out yet. Will let everyone know in couple of weeks when I give this a crack. Having said that its tempting to get my licence over here, bikes are so cheap during winter.

Are there any cheap fares to get back here short term?
S'pose even if there was our high dollar still makes it expensive.
