    Lams approved

Hi this is my first post and am in danger of sounding like an idiot but anyway, I know it's probably not....... would the Kawasaki ZX6 Ninja be legally written on a learners permit?, I just dont know how to work out the power to weight ratio thing. I am not a learner rider as such, I rode dirt bikes for years.
    Cheers.

As a general rule, the better it felt when you said it, the more trouble it's going to get you into.

AFAIK The bikes have to be LAM approved, which as you know fall under a certain Power-to-weight ratio. Even then I think they are restricted therefore you can't ride for example a Suzuki SV650 if it isn't the LAM approved restricted model.

Does anyone know if this is true?

You are restricted to the specific models, as well as production year ranges, specified in the LAMS list available on transport's website. If you have a bike that you think should be on the list, you can apply to have it added, but a zx6r is not gonna be anywhere near the limit.

Go off the RTA's list, it's pretty generous compared to some places. Just don't ride a bike that's not on the list. The copper who stops you has a copy of that same list, so make sure what's on your registration label matches the cunstabulary's paperwork. Don't be getting into arguments about power to weight by the side of the road.

And yes highway patrol up on the new england will ping you for riding out of class, I remember one of my workmates got done going up to the tomato farm. They've got shitloads of coppers up that way now. Even in 2002 when I first lived in Armidale you could drive into town and if you passed two cop cars that was all of them accounted for.

I'm getting my bike with the aim of riding up that way to visit some friends. Are there any group rides going on around Armidale?

Yeah, definately not doable which is a huge shame as I could get a ZX6 for a really good price, not sure about group rides Cosimo but can find out for you if you like. And yeah, lots of cops here.
