    Licensing/Registration Question

Hi Guys. Quick question for all you in the know..

I'm looking at buying (Another) bike, a 1994 Ducati 916.... The bike has just been imported, and from I understand it's got it's ADR compliance sticker on it - see below.

My question is simple... The bike has never been registered in Australia (has come from Japan) - but it does have the ADR compliance.... What is the process? Do I simply take it over the pits? Do I need some other form of paperwork or have an engineer inspect it?

The bike is completely 100% stock so I don't suspect there will be any problems. From what I've been told (it's being resold by a bike shop), it's been properly imported by a ridgy didge bike importer..

    Opinions? Advice?

    It's a nice one.

reading the WA licensing home page only confuses me more.. In there, they state you can only transfer the bike from one state to another if it was in your name for the last 12 months... Surely that's not the case?

My original question remains though. If it's been compliances (or whatever, see that sticker on the frame) is it a straightforward process to register?... The dealer says no worries - but we are talking about QLD... In days gone by they would register just about anything..

Last thing I want to do is get stuck with something I can't register... If I wasn't worried about registration I'd just buy something out of the US..

If it has an ADR plate and you have proof of ownership, you will be fine. Is that the best pic of the supposed ADR plate?
It should state that it meets ADR and the name of who complianced it. (Ducati or private importer)
Intelligence and education are three sides of the same coin.

if the bike has never been registered in australia you will need import approval papers for this bike
without them it cannot get registered
another away round is you get a frame from a wreckers here in oz and transfer everything over then no problems
adr means australian design rule-if just imported from japan i wouldnt think it was an australian complance plate
but remember do your own research not just off a forum

Unless you find out the wrecked frame was marked as an unrepairable writeoff...

    I agree...

If the price is right buy it...

You will get it registered some how and even if it sits in your garage for a few years you won't lose...

You can only transfer the registration if you own it 12 months or more, otherwise it is treated as a new registration so over the pits and pay stamp duty for the purchase value etc. IF it has an ADR compliance plate fitted not just a build plate, then it's no different to my 95 model being registered after being unlicensed for a few years.

what money do they want for this special bike
    and
why cant you find a local bike without all this hassel?

remember when these bikes when first hit australia some modifications had to be made to make them comply

saw one in the 4 sale section and with the right money it would sell

It's completely original, and very low milage... Price isn't bad (not great), but original low kay 916's that haven't been beaten to hell aren't exactly easy to find eh.

the one in the for sale section is a lovely bike, but if you want a stock and unmolested example then you have to look further afield, chances of finding a local bike of that model in that condition are pretty low, the one i bought was close but still had the fairings replaced.

A lot like if someone is looking for a stock RZ500 and you try to sell them an RZ350 lol

i think patto still has a 98 model 916, was in there when i bought mine he had $14500 on it but he dropped the price recently to $12500 only fault i noticed is that the fairings have 996 stickers lol, i would have bought it if the one i bought off his son hadn't had more bling added and a list of mods and replaced stock parts worth $6500 and it just felt right

Did you have any luck finding what you were looking for? I was in at pattos again yesterday and there is a 916 on the floor in beautiful condition, was traded on a 1098 or something didn't check the kms or price, todd is also in the process of restoring another 2 the same as he did the one i bought both moderate kms and thoroughly checked over might be worth checking out.
