    Motorcycle died

Any thing you can think of may help...

Just riding back from work at lunch, stopped at a stop sign and my bike died.

    Just stopped running.

It'll turn over but won't fire.

Was running okay up until that point.

The only time this has happened to me, is usually in a car and usually its a timing belt/chain slipping... ($$$) ... I hope it is not that.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

    Daytona 900 (95) 40oook approx.

Either a dead battery or a fuel supply issue. Does the exhaust smell rich in fuel? Can you try and bump start it?

More info on "just stopped running"?

Fine 1 second and dead the next - Electrical (kill switch like others said?)
Ran rough for a second and then died - Fuel
    Respect is earned, not enforced.

Yeh, it ran fine - then just stopped.

I thought it might have been the fuel tank on reserve, but sadly no.

Kill switch okay. It does seem like an ignition kinda issue.

Currently looking at the 'Pre-ignition coil' on another forum, which apparently can fail when hot on the T3 triumphs. Will see after work when it cools down, it stopped a couple of blocks from here which is nice.

It has been fine previously in the toasty weather though.

My old katana wore through the wiring harness and earthed onto the frame causing the engine to die and the bike coasted to a stop. Could be something similar.

Suscribed: I'm keen to hear suggestions for your bike issues.

My bike has done that to me many times. I'll be riding in the middle of turns gearing down and it cuts out, or at the lights when i have filtered to the front and cuts out when i take off. It is then reluctant to start. The contacts for the starter might need a bit of a clean perhaps. I havnt quite solved the issue yet, but have been reluctant to ride because of this. My issue must be electrical somehow but It's got a new battery.

I did however turn my idle speed up. My boyfriend's has now been riding it and its been fine :/
I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it!

When asking a problem make model and year of bike is always helpful, I'd look up a charging system fault finding guide and make sure its working as advertised.

Has it got spark? Pull off a plug lead and put something metal inside it and hold the metal close to the engine while cranking and see if a spark jumps. If you've got spark its most likely fuel.

Yup, pretty sure its the pick-up coil. It cooled down this arvo, then started again - then one block from home stopped before starting again an hour later.

    Me hopes this isn't expensive...

    Thanks for your ideas.

I had an old Ducati that used to cut out when it got hot, it was the plug lead.

Sorry Nero. I was trying not to hijack devolved's thread.
I have a 2000 sv650, 48,000kms, an ex race bike actually. Wanted to see what ideas are posted so I could perhaps have a look too.

When my wife turns her idle speed up I get a fine ride out of her too.

    It's probably the battery....
