Motorcycle inventions

Say if I had an idea to make a motorbike go faster, lighter, safer, a new part etc, what are the methods/processes from the initial idea to having it bought and implemented by a motorcycle manufacturer? Thanks

what is your idea?

i know... i know.. you don't want anyone to steal it.

But it depends on exactly what you want to do first.

don't tell anyone about it

spend lots of $$ patenting it.

Attempt to flog it off to motorcycle manufacturer.

Get knocked back

see it appear in a slightly different form in a few years.

lol

How sure are you that noone has invented it before?

Get a working prototype. The amount of revolutionary ideas I've had that didn't work would astound you

Someone may have thought about it before, who knows? A search of the patent website may prove that it hasn't been done. Would be good to hear from someone that has gone through the process and their experiences so we can all learn from it.
