    Motorcycle schools in bunbury???

    Hi all,

I have just joined and am looking to get my licence i was meant to do it this time last year - buy a bike and get the licence but due to stuff going on in my life at the time i had to put it on the backburner. i have just googled motorbike schools in bunbury and there is now 3 or 4 of them last year i could only find one. so just wondered if anyone could give me some advice on who i should use as want to get my licence before the summer i heard that bunbury motorcycle school were really good cant remember the guys name though as was told about them last year.

would really appreciate any advice on the best one to go with and as soon as i have my licence i will buy a bike and hopefully be able to do the summer rides

Hi, go look in this thread, towards the bottom

Ring them all and get back to me if they are not operating and I'll delete them from the list

Oh and you'll get out there quicker if you buy a bike before you pass your test esp. if you have ridden lots before

There is also another new one on the southwest highway in Picton i think he's called Kick Start or something he seems to be putting a few through for lessons, but the only one i could confidently recommend is Bunbury Motorcycle School but that doesn't mean the others won't be any good, more that i know Drew and his crew are actually good.

hi all and thank you for your advice. that kickstart came up on the google search but someone told me that it was that merv who used to own the triumph shop in bunno. when i was looking for a bike last year i went in there to look at the bonnies and after 2 hours i was no wiser about the bike i went into look at. he spent an hour talking himself up and how great he was, where he raced blah blah, then when i told him i was originally from england he spent the next hour telling me how rough it was where he grew up and how hard he was etc etc then more time (yes more lol) telling me how all aussies are low lifes and not to be trusted. well i have been here a decade now and must say i find the aussies to be a really good bunch. i left the shop feeling quite intimidated by the whole experience. but will go back in there now as i have heard that the new people in there are a good lot.

if anyone can confirm that its not him that runs kickstart i may give them a ring to see how there prices compare with the other schools, thanks in advance

This is the guy I went to when I was learning, and I highly recommend him. Cool guy, no pressure, explains stuff really well, knows his shit.

since we're commenting on your own established experience rather than me badmouthing someone and creating prejudice, i will confirm that i firmly believe Merv owns and runs kickstart as i have seen him there wheeling out the bikes and the husqvarna SMR450RR he tried to sell me as a near new demo without even bothering to clean off his hooliganism is there also.

If you can get in with Drew or one of his instructors it would be a far better choice for you, whether or not he is more expensive becomes irrelevant when you get value for money by having better maintained bikes to ride or more competent instruction.

Sigh, this looks suspiciously like another one of those fishing threads that gets started by Merv himself or one of his goons.

If I'm mistaken (which happens more often than I'd like to admit) and you are genuinly looking for a good motorcycle school, then I recommend Drew & co. from Bunbury Motorcyle School. Any of the others may be just as good though I have not dealt with them.

Stumbled on this after reading another similar thread. Did some hunting, realised who the owner of Kickstart was. I was howling with laughter when I read about him telling people "how hard he is" etc., etc.! I once went to buy a Vespa from Merv in Bunbury, it was a guaranteed sale. I got trapped listening to the exact same shit before getting the chance to ask if he could order one in as he didn't have the colour I wanted.

He couldn't be bothered. So I bought one from Perth instead. His loss.

If he hasn't changed, and you don't wanna pay the best part of $100 to listen to how good a boxer he is, I'd stay well away from the bloke.

(Nearly fell off my chair reading the 'goons' comment. Does he REALLY start his own arguments?).

    PS.

Merv now has no association with the Triumph dealership in Bunbury! It's owned by a completely new team. After a very recent experience with them (See other thread with Bikers Den in the title) I cannot fault their friendly customer service and attention to detail. I'd recommend their dealership on Stuart Street in a heartbeat.

Well, its all a matter of opinion.

I had one lesson with drew 2 years ago on my R-E's, learned nothing, didnt like the guy and failed.

I had one lesson with kickstart Merv, passed first time, thought Merv was a chatty bloke and easy to get along with.

    Merv > Drew

oh, and considering the bunbury DPI is run by poms, and merv is a pom, his 98% pass rate is nothing to sneeze at

poms are a secret society of masons that got each others back

pay the toll and you will pass

furthermore, Ron the assessor at the dpi is a ****

Always good to hear another perspective, Ninja250.

I'm glad to hear Merv is better at teaching than he was as a dealer. (Bikes, not drugs)!

I've never learned with Drew, so can't comment on his skills, but it's interesting to hear other peoples stories. There's always two sides, and neither one is wrong. Like you say, it's all about opinions, which is exactly what we want on forums. Good work, and for the record, I'm an Aussie mongrel, aka a Pom that emigrated. We don't all stick together but I do get what you mean, and masons are dickheads. (My Grandad was one).

For me, it was about passing the test and getting my licence.

I dont really give a shit about assesors or instructors personal lives.

I wasnt there to suck cock or get married to a man.

Drew might be a good bloke but he is a shit teacher. Merv might be a big noting pom that sux as a business man but he has good communication skills and can teach.

He knows the test well, knows all the assesors, and tells you what you need to know to pass.

My experience with kickstart was positive, bunbury motorbikie school was negative. If i dont see anyone at the dpi again or the instructors again, i dont give a shit.

Get your licence and forget about these small town weirdos.

Some advice from someone that has recently run the gauntlet would be to avoid the bunbury dpi all together.

The word on th street is that the assesor at harvey dpi gives licences to anybody in a truly country bumpkin style.

If i was to do it all over again, i would have no lessons and ride out to harvey for my tests.
