    new Helmet from overseas

I need to buy a new Helmet mine was stolen and recovered with damage.

I have looked at local shops but the prices man are inflated when you compare european and USA prices.

example agv gp tech rossi rep local price $1000+ or $500 online form the USA same helmet same colours.

what is to stop me buying from the USA and saving $$$

as anyone bought their lid from the states and if so had any comebacks?

Nothing is stopping you really, except they wont have the AS sticker.. So "technically" they are not allowed to be used on Aus roads..

I bought my Arai off Ebay, and it came in from Japan within 4 days of ordering. Pretty good deal, considering I would have paid $1200 for the same helmet locally (that's if they have it here)

Damn, so I'm not the only one with a Nakano Sakura!

PS: They retail for $1399 here. There was one at Total Motorcycle Accessories not long ago.

I bought my HJC - HQ1 (aka AC-12 carbon AU$550) carbon from Korea it took 4days to arrive. very fast

I bought it for just less than $450 incl shipping.

so it pays to shop around.

    but no AS sticker.

    *********Question******
Is it possible that bike / health insurance company may refuse the claim if he/she was wearing NOT Australian standard helmet?

There's a bloke around the traps here who will have the actual legislation, but apparently WA has a nice bit of legalise that basically allows for a helmet of the same standard as one that is sold here to be worn. So if x helmet is sold in aus and is compliant, then you can buy it o/s and not worry

Being from Sydney, I just bought it from o/s anyway. Saved myself $700 funbux.

You'll be fine at the drags as soon as you show them the SNELL sticker under the lining.

Anyone know someone with access to AS stickers. Fuck they'd make a mint. $5 a pop and you never have to worry or read through a 20 page thread about something that'll never likely happen (i.e. being pulled over by popo for it).

I have bought amongst other things a couple of helmets from RIDERS DISCOUNT: Motorcycle Accessories, Motorcycle Helmets & Gear and had great service and best thing is pack as much stuff as you like in the shipping and it's still only $25 to land on your doorstep

the only thing I did was select an identical helmet to what is sold here giving the best possible argument for the day in court should it ever arise

Motorcycling Australia has a list of acceptable international standards. Guaranteed your helmet will carry certification from one or more of them.

Edit: Both MA and Cams have to accept international standard helmets in order to allow international competition in Oz.

If your Old Helmet was returned and had the AS sticker, just glued on the new one from overseas!

You cant peel an old sticker off, it is designed to damage and read "VOID".
There is a fine and points applicable for not having an AS sticker.
Solution: go buy an AS sticker (around $20 when you find it) ive been checked twice, no questions asked
