    Exclamation The new REVS check

Over the weekend, REVS disappeared everywhere and was replaced by PPSR.
    Costs $4 and tells you nothing, specifically;

    Written off: no data
    Stolen: no data
A stolen vehicle notification, or the absence of one, does not necessarily mean a vehicle is or is not stolen.
If there is a stolen vehicle notification you wish to enquire about, you should contact the police force in the State
or Territory indicated immediately after the date in the notification. The reference number at the end of the
notification should be quoted as a part of your enquiry.
    ...useless!?

It doesn't even tell you if the bike/car has money owing?

Nope, there's a whole lot of "no information" bits. Another well thought out government service!

Used to be free til you wanted a certificate...

    WTF?

It's nasty and yuck website. Not user friendly and well... lacking in any detail.

Also looks very easy to register an interest in someone else's property....

But that would mean I would need to know which bank or which lender? And if the seller was dishonest about it potentially I could find my bike being taken off me in the future!

Or can any bank/lender do background checks?

I've only ever bought 1 vehicle (my TTPM van) which had finance on it, and what a fucking ordeal that was... the vendor gave me the finanvce details (eventually, he wasn't happy as he thought I should pay him and he would then pay it off... sort of misses the point entirely)

Finance company would not verify amount owing as I wasn't the borrower... surely this is standard practice, how the fuch is it supposed to work? IIRC I eventually got the exact amount from the vendor, then got someone at the finance co to "unofficially" confirm that amount, which I then paid to them

[QUOTE=Shady7/8;2501472]Used to be free til you wanted a certificate...QUOTE]

I used this no more than a fortnight ago, there seemed to be heaps of other 'alternatives' asking $20+ for the same information.

I spat at "You must purchase the certificate in order for this to be legit" and figured the $3 or whatever i paid should have been worth it.

    Utterly ridiculous

From memory (obviously cant test it now) if the vehicle had one of the identifiers pop up (Finance, WOVR etc) the online search basically just said one or more things has come up, please call us to obtain a REVS certificate (aka cough up $30). All the 'free' test used to tell was whether it was free from any of the identifiers, which was somewhat pointless given the number of vehicles on finance these days.

The old system had its flaws, but this is a step backwards.

I used this this morning for a car and it gave me a certificate stating that it was all good, but also said that they are going through a transition period and not all information may be registered, rang the helpline and was on hold for 30mins with no answer, then emailed wit hno answer. F'n useless site IMO.

    just bumping an old thread.
Decided to use this today for a potential purchase. First try didnt show up anything got a "vehicle not registered" message. WTF?

So I tried this on my old eastern state bike which revs previously failed to pick anything up (but i knew it was a writeoff once) ...BAM! got numbers! turns out it had been in two crashes, one being a repairable writeoff.
For another paltry $3.70 I reentered the vin of the new bike, triple checked it, payed my money, and this time ...BAM another written off toy being resold! (guess who isnt getting my money now)

So, the system does work for damaged bikes. wonder if it works for financed bikes??? anyone on finance willing to try? I'll shout a coffee on the next ride (to the value of $3.70)

its only $3.70 and you can print the certificate off afterwards!

When the service was free I'd just go through everything in the classifieds I was even remotely interested in and check it. Saved me wasting my time when things flashed up as having been write offs etc. I don't mind paying a couple of bucks to check a vehicle I'm serious about, but it will change the way I do my research.

The PPRS search will advise you if there is money owning by saying that "This vehicle is registered with the PPRS" under the subheading 'REGISTERATION DETAILS' which is confusing as shortly after is has the vehicle registeration details. I did a search on a vehicle and mine came up with-

    Registration Details
No registrations exist for this serial number
