Exclamation No more Riding lessons or Car lessons at Matthews Netball car park!

    Hi peeps,

Just a quick note the council (Town of Cambridge) has put a sign at the entrance of the Selby St car park in Wembley about NO more car or motorcycle lessons in the car park. Penalty is an hefty $300 find!

Apparently few residents from Halesworth Rd (next to the car park) have put a formal complaint to the council against cars and motorcycle practising in the car park, apparently we do make too much noise reducing the value of their precious house...

Then pls make sure if u have family or friends using the carpark for practising let them know! 300 bucks is a big hole in your wallet!

    Andrea

How much noise could you possibly make on a cb250/scorpion/whatever?

Interesting to see the exact wording of the sign and the appropriate by-law.

If it's "lessons", that's quite distinct from "practising".

If it's "No L-Plates", take 'em off - the car park is not a road (according to the act) and therefore plates are not required thereon.

:edit: it's a good thing though, I've lost track of the number of times I've gone there to do burnouts and wheelies and just rev the bike off its tits but had to turn away because someone was using it for lessons. Now I can go nutttts!

Or move the lessons to the road immediately outside their front doors. Nothing they can do about that, except apply to have the road specially gazetted (yeah...good luck with that).

This road could become the new dorchester...

What disappoint me the most is after 3 separates motorcycle incidents on Monday, it's quite clear we do need places like Selby car park for practising as we getting more n more people learning motorcycles...can you imagine starting a complete beginner on a busy road??? Good luck with that!
The carpark has been used for more the 15 years...some people do care more about their precious home value then the safety of our kids on the road...

    Just my 5c thoughts!

A licenced rider could still go and do E stops and figure 8s?

    HA! That is utter bullsh*t!

I used to live on the corner of Jersey and Hay st and i still drive past that carpark twice a day. The noise from netball days must be infinitely worse and if you live near Hay st and Selby st you can't really say you didn't think there would be traffic noise when you moved in!

I wonder what the cops are going to do I have recently seen them down there doing training exercises and slow maneuvers on more than one occasion.

I would suggest that the instructors all now use the street above the car park as their new lessons area, its a very low traffic street and you are within your right to teach a learner on a public road. You can park the trailer at the shops were Tasty Tarts is.

I would love to see every driving/ riding instructor put that street on their training route.
    Including the old:
"I want you to find number 28 and park in their driveway"
"You've left something behind. Use the driveway at number 22 to make a 3 point turn"
"My mistake. Here it is. Use the driveway at 26 to make another 3 point turn"

Stoneville we tried few times but this old guy used to literally run from his house (old Landcruiser and white Ford Laser on the driveway) and jump in front of my student, abusing him verbally....one particulate time he said to me "f@kin Ding go back to your country"... I guess he thinks he own the road too... I guess some people do not have nothing better to do during the day...Andrea

Can you not turn it around on him?

Especially saying things like that - inciting racial hate?

    Attempted assault?

Anything? He is endangering by doing that is my guess

ie try again, but get it on video. I like it.

Failing that, 60 bikes taking a WNR detour to spend half an hour doing low-speed races (ie last one wins) out the front of his house? Awesome.
