No need to shout.

to clarify (as it seems i need to) I meant no need to use ALL CAPS and make a valid post unreadable.

Sorry.

NO, I AM NOT A MRA MEMBER, BUT I AM GOING TO BE.................................[/b]

O rly.

With all the fatalities and bike crashes since say, mid November, not to mention 31 for the whole 2006 year (thats 15% of the overall road toll btw) what has the MRA said? Seen any letters in the paper or articles from them? Looked on thier website, seen any press releases? No there's nothing there either.

Here's something for you - the MRA has a representative on the Road User Consultative Committee (lets just say RUCC for short). The RUCC reports to the Road Safety Council. The role of the RUCC apparently is as follows:

Objectives
The objectives of the Road User Consultative Committee

1.
Povide advice (both proactive and reactive) to the Road Safety Council via the Road User Representative on cost-effective ways to improve road safety outcomes for the community;
2.
Communicate with major road user stakeholders and the community to develop understanding of effective ways of improving road safety outcomes; and
3.
Monitor and review road safety legislation, regulation and policy to enhance road user safety.[/b]
The members appointed to the RUCC are:

*
Motorist representative (Chairperson)
*
Bicyclist representative - Bicycle Transportation Alliance
*
Motorcyclist representative - Motorcycle Riders Association
*
Pedestrian representative - Walking WA Committe
*
Heavy vehicle, bus and taxi representative[/b]
So there you have a committee that gives advice to the Road Safety Council on all sorts of stuff. And the MRA has a member on this committee. This committee has a direct influence in the programs the Road Safety Council runs yet we still dont hear of any acceptance or acknowledgement of what is happening to motorcyclists on the roads.

They have access to the Road Safety Council like none of us do, yet still nothing happens? It begs the question then - what are they doing?

That is why you should go along and find out... like yourself I have similar thoughts.....

I think they might need to make some changes... and I would like them to and hope others with the same idea can come along and start something happening

Motorist representative (Chairperson)
[/b]
Car drivers hate motorcyclists, they are jealous and don't understand us and the freedoms given to us by two wheel transportation. Besides which why does the Motorist representitive have to be Chairperson.
Bicyclist representative - Bicycle Transportation Alliance[/b]
Bike riders hate us because unlike them our legs don't get tired, and we know that they know that lycra bike shorts don't offer any protection during a cycleway crash and looks so GHEY!.
Motorcyclist representative - Motorcycle Riders Association[/b]
May as well be represented by a deaf mute, the MRAWA know what the problems are but when the majority of a commitee hate what you stand for why bother.
Pedestrian representative - Walking WA Committe
[/b]
They hate us because we disturb their peace when they go out frolicking in the urban wilderness that we call suburbia
Heavy vehicle, bus and taxi representative[/b]
[/b][/quote]
Two thirds of these representitives despise us but it's more of a cultural thing, Indian Busdrivers and Pakistany Taxi drivers have no business driving on our roads if they can't learn to be courteous and show even the basic knowledge of what the indicator stalk does on a steering colum. Truck Drivers tend to have to put up with the same things we do, except if a car pulls out infront of them it's a little hard for the car driver to say "I didn't see him", they also cop abuse from drivers who drive in a truck's blind spot or get cut off, I swear one day I'm going to push some moron in a car off the road because they are speeding to pass me at a merge point.

So in sumation I would like to point out that we are screwed and had better get used to it. There are more of them than us, we are the minority, get used to it or start writing letters to your local MP and ask for a National SORRY Day for Motorcyclists because somewhere at sometime we were wronged or will be wronged by some moron with blonde hair driving a silver Lancer whilst on her mobile phone and flicking through the song selection on her IPOD..

Oh and "Screw THAT!" Last time I tried to attend one of their meeting regarding Motorcycle awareness 5 bikes got totalled at the cafe where a few of us met up. Want to see the pics? Not pretty.

I watched a docco on a company that needed representation... what they did was put a member into the "opposing groups and support/vote them to be representative or use them for intelligence gathering... PSB must have the numbers to create influence if we each joined a cycling or pedestrian body... or like SAF once said a political party!

It worked for them... it could work for us

I ride a bicycle.. and someone else must be a pedestrian.. if we use our influence in these groups we would have majority... and those 2 organisations honestly how many voting members would they have which we could not shift

The only way things will change is if motivated, dedicated, clear-headed people get involved ............. too easy to sit back and point out what's wrong with the system
yes, i DO serve the devil - but only in an advisory capacity ...

Nothing wrong with the system, just ask the other 90% of road users who don't ride motorbikes or scooters or enjoy their presence on our roads.

Perhaps we should have just sold the filthy crack whore, somebody would have bought that bucket c**t, perhaps Ebay would have helped.

I'd love to be around when the Karma stick catches up with her and the rest of her friends.

For a topic that is on everyones minds and voices, there has not been much feedback has there

I for one will be going along to

MRA WA MEETING VENUE
Bayswater Hotel,
Railway Parade,
Bayswater,
7.30pm,
last Tuesday of every month.

There are many topics to raise

1) memberships (anyone tried to contact the joining officer)
2) What the MRA is activily doing (show me the money!)
3) Why the MRA does not respond to media critisim of MCbike riders
blah blah blah

numbers mean attention, the more you have, the better the vote when the time comes along
the MRA is only a voice of the people elected?????

Food for thought..................

Yeah I know. Whenever a thread like this is posted only the usual suspects seem to be interested. Say, 10 or so users out of over 3000 registered users

Not very good odds is it.

(Sorry but I haven't been here for a while and I can't firgure how to do quotes just yet.)

We all realise that this Chairperson is Grant Fucking Dorrington don't we?

The man who wants to have satellites control how fast we go and at what time, the man who told the West Australian 'newspaper' that 'Motorcyclist kill themselves' on the road, the man whose only solution to mounting road toll figures has been to bitch about people not listening to him and trying to increase fines and penalties for speedin (yup, just speeing).

This fuckwit is the biggest obstacle to rider safety in WA, and he's pulling all the strings.

Until we get rid of him, nothing will change.

Sorry, scratch that, until we get rid of him, things will keep getting worse.

The West printed my letter calling for Dorrington's head today.

If everyone else sends one as well they'll start printing them.

Just go to www.thewest.com and go to 'opinion' on the tool bar, then go to letters to the editor and click on 'have your say' at the bottom of any of the letters.

Have at him boys (and girls).
