Great bike lots of grunt and comfortable riding position.
Had mine from new wouldn't sell it pity they don't sell the new version they have in Japan.
Ask Mark he has one.
With a few mods and is well quick enuff.
Peace out
Awesome bike! I had one for a brief spell! Had the battery relocation/air filter box mod, 4 degree timing advance, jardine end can and jetting to suit. Was comfy, fast and look porn! It was a sad day when i low sided her and it was written off. Ill be buying another as soon as I can!

top shelf comfy bike that handles pretty well, yamaha make a similar one but in the same position as you, i would pick a kwakka .

Am I right in assuming there hasn't been any changes to this model since early 2000's?
There are quite a few around and they do have the appearance of yesteryear muscle bikes
Other options would be Suzuki Bandit, Yamaha Fazer FZ1, and probably Honda VFR or Blackbirds, though a lot depends on whether you're looking for a certain engine size or specific style, or just a more upright ride position
I'm sure you've checked MCN but just in case you haven't, here's a couple of links

Brilliant bike! comfy and loads of grunt! great storage area under the seat due to the twin shocks! (my Bro owns one)
I REJECT YOUR REALITY AND SUBSTITUTE MY OWN
cons: its not a cafe![]()
never play leapfrog with a unicorn
Kwakka version of GSX1400 or xjr1300.
Tuff, comfy, reliable & bullet-proof...Mark will give you the goss on his but bolt-on turbo option FTW!!!
"She's got a few miles on her but..." -Mark-

Yep...
-mark-
aka Hooligan, Zedrex... owns one and gets it out there frequently. He's got eyes on another bike, (already got 3) but cant bring himself to sell the big Zed.
He's convinced it gives nothing away to other bikes on country runs, except maybe the bigger faired bikes... busa's etc.
IMHO i dont think it could be compared to a Suzuki bandit, similar engine, but totally different frames and rear suspension.
The swingarm on -mark- 's bike (i think his is 05? or upto 07 model) is pretty trick too... sorta like a tubular steel braced design. Has eccentric chain adjustment - pretty cool as rotated 180 degrees changes the ride height by upto 15mm? Pretty handy for setting up for twistys or touring, without having to play with preloads or dampning settings. Surprisingly Mark still hasn't flipped his 180 degrees to get the real Mr Hyde side out of the bike, and punts along at a healthy pace on all runs.
When the only tool you have is a hammer, every thing starts to look like a nail
There is a model which has a frame mounted fairing so probably better choice for longer trips.
I ride mine everywhere so the bufferting doesn't really bother me.
They also make a great pillion bike as the seat is nice and comfy, and as mentioned it has a great storage area under the seat, big enough to store a wine bottle apparently.

I love mine. I have a 2006 ZRX1200R.
The bike is comfy, the underseat storage is very useful indeed I can carry tools, hats, glasses, tyre repair kit and a compressor when I go out on a run.
The bike has a strong following in the USA and there are heaps of mods and aftermarket bits and pieces you can do to them. Check out ZRXOA Home Page for the motherload of info on these bikes.
I bought my bike stock, only mod it had was a yoshi slip on muffler.
The bikes are fairly well restricted with factory headers, you can get a fair bit more punch out of them with a full exhaust and rejetting / air box mods. Not that a stock one is slow by any means. I have modded mine along these lines with a Kerker race exhaust and an Ivans jetting kit and airbox mod.
I found that my bike in stock form felt a bit loose at the front end on high speed cornering so I added a fork brace and also a steering damper (to counter the harshness of the brace) this has left my bike handling quite nicely.
The suspension is fully and easily adjustable. The chain adjustment is great with no need to line up each side.
It's just a great bike in my opinion, has great looks and strong performance and handling.
I am looking for another bike but cannot imagine letting this one go, so will need to make some more room

My dad has one of these - the ZRX1200S model. Eagle screen, power bronze belly pan and rear hugger, yoshi bolt on can, dynojet kit. Very nice to ride, very comfortable. Says its nicer to ride than his ZZR1200. Has done the nullarbor run to Phillip Island a couple of times. He's in no hurry to get rid of it either
First thing to do is chuck on a full system. factory oness are insanely heavy and restrictive
. rear shocks arent brilliant.
hi mark
thanks for all that info :-)
sure you dont want tosell yours lol
Well, I am a bit late with my response, and most of what I would say has been said. I have mine from new since 2007, and had the 1100 model before that. I totally love the bike, got great sound with the right system bolted on. It is super comfy, but the wind hits you hard if you crank it up. If the S model would have been still available in 2007 I would have taken it. Mine will get old with me, unless Kawasaki comes up with something similar......say a ZRX 1400![]()

I have had mine for almost a year & I love it, probably will never part with it. It's a great all rounder & responds well to suitable mods, of which there are many. No many of this model about here in WA.
Be warned, they are not without their faults, e.g. pitted cams, dodgy starter motor/generator drive chain tensioner are two things that I have had to deal with. But once the fixes are done the motor should last.
As mentioned above, they have a big following in the US, the website "ZRXOA Message Board" is a wealth of information about the model.
