Pesky double demerits!! Quick question inside:

Got done for speeding yesterday, 128 in a 100 (Mitchell fwy) by undercovers. Took it on the chin and got 6 points and a $300 fine. Now he said its 6 points and they go onto a 'dummy' Australian licence till I switch from my UK one - my question is does the timer start now for the points to come off? Or will the 3 years start when I transfer my licence?

    Thanks!

Oohh ouch, well now you know for future reference..when they bust you accelerate more..No on all seriousness i have no idea, but i would assume once you have transferred it over.

Would have thought it would start as soon as they 'attache' them to a licence.

Ring them up or PM Ryvern

Will likely start from when you pay the fine but i'm sure you need to change the UK licence to an aussie one within 3 months of arriving if you're a resident. How long have you been in Australia?

Indeed; welcome to WA. Having been through this myself now my advice is to take the 3 months on the chin. I have "heard" that 90% of people (despite what the letter you'll be sent says) commit an offence in the double or nothing period and end up with a 6 months ban.

If you do commit an offence during the double or nothing period, you are basically uninsurable afterwards as it counts for 2 bans or restrictions; I had to find an insurance company that wouldn't ask the question just to insure my 30 year old GS. Christ knows how I'll insure the Panigale I'm planning to get...

    Sorry - your right. He's got 2 x 3 points for a 19-29 over, not 2 x 6.

And the 3 years starts when your fine is paid.

double d`s suck, unless your sucking double d`s........ these new camera`s in traffic lights that flash you for speeding through them are a prick, i dont even notice that i`m speeding until that "flash-flash". the tolerance must be only a few klm over, the days of bikes being able to get away with the odd camera indiscretion are gone....

I've been told UK doesn't recognise australian demerit points, so don't worry about them. You just need to worry about the $$$

The points don't mean anything while you are on the UK license unless they have changed the rules recently. Just pay the fine but don't transfer the license until you are required to.

I transferred my license over east and it never took over the points. Also transferred from NSW to WA and the 4 points I had taken from me over there where given back.

I got 4 points for going >30kph over the limit (on a TRX) while here on a working holiday in 2004. These were still on my license 2 years later when I came here for good and were converted over to my Oz license automatically when I got it.

As long as you never get an Aussie licence, you'll never need to worry. They can't transfer points to your UK licence. If you aren't planning on coming back again, I wouldn't even bother with paying the fine. If you are, however, then pay the fine, the points will go on the "dummy" licence, and if you move here permanently, then those points will remain on your WA (or other state) licence for 3 years from the date of paying the fine.
