    Police on ATV/quad bikes?

Saw two coppers on blue quad bikes riding on the road on the way home from work today..

Never seen or heard of this before, I thought it might of been a council lawnmower at first but when I looked again it was clearly a WAPOL uniform in dirtbike style helmets

Anyone seen or heard anything about this? it wasn't like it was an area where there's any bushland either..

    Bike looked something like this

Training perhaps.. I see police on atvs and motorbikes a fair bit patrolling private land up along Marmion av closer to alkimos. Trying to bust all the unlicensed motorcycles and such.

ahh okay, it'd make sense if they were doing it offroad or on private land but in the middle of the suburbs on a main road was kind of strange

Yeah I've seen them before in Geraldton.

I think the army boys in full camo uniforms on dirt bikes around Swanbourne look stranger.

They often use them in searches etc as they can go places patrol cars cant. May also be used in special operations in suburbs etc for the same reasons.

Bear in mind typically they can only be registered for use on specific roads to achieve a specific purpose.
i.e. a land owner may use it on 'Great Northern Hwy' to access land he/she owns across the road. This licence does not allow free un-restricted use on the road.

However... I have heard that some of the Can Ams can be road registered now.... If so and the Cops are using them then they can chase you down

Nice work on the video, I guess they seem to be out every now and then, I'd never seen them before and just thought it was weird

Saw them on nicholson rd canningvale northbound today some time around half 2pm? Also a new wrx sedan, white, with full light bar and markings, all heading to the police station near the garden st roundabout...quads had full rego, lights, indicators, couldnt get a brand but were blue in colour and looked more ag style than sports type. Were doing an easy 80kph side by side, racing maybe? Riding in a manner to test ones or the vehicles capabilities? Thats hoon laws right there lol

There were a couple of quads parked at carousel (road registered and all) and about 4 kids getting in trouble. I saw helmets and assumed it was for the quads. Correlation perhaps?

    This was about 12pm.

Yeah, could be - I saw them in Thornlie at around 2:15ish.

If they're road registered for Police then I wonder if they can be road registered for the public?
