Proof of R's Learners Permit? New System?
Hi guys,
About a month ago I went into the Morley licencing center and asked for my R Class learners... after a 40 min wait, then told i need to fillout a form and wait in the prioitys lane, another 20 mins and about 20 mins of her playing on her computer saying it wont work the head boss guy came over and did something, still didnt work so he rang head office. Then they told me there is a new system and that you dont need to get your R learners just book your test and when you are ready you go in and do it.
Anyways so now I have payed my $71 something dollars and have my R learners Apparently! But... went in to test rides some bikes at some dealers and they said that i need my R learners liecnece paper? I dont have one of those and they said well go get one.
Now im Stumped... Im guessing both the lady and the boss dude had no idea and havent givin me the right proof.
Has anyone else heard of this "New System"?
Cheers.

RE licence now also = R Learners.
You just pay for a test booking when you are ready / 12 months

So in Killswitch's case you simply take your R-E license to the dealer to test the big bikes? So the dealer needs education?

From my understanding the new system allows all RE class riders to commence R class lessons without a learners permit. It is only when you go to make a motorcycle practical test that you are required to pay the test / permit fee...... Not all motorcycle shops are aware of this hence their response when you want to go for a test ride. You are still required to have the person who is out with you to have held a minimum of 3 yrs experience of the class being ridden.
Hope that helps mate

It's 4 years for driving, i think most people would assume it's the same for supervising a learner on a bike too.

This.
I assume it's because you need to pass the tests to get an instructor's license.
So if you can do that after 3 years then great. An extra 12 months experience for regular folk.
The time starts from when you get your P's (or pass the test if you've had the P's already). So two years after they've ended you can shadow people.

to shadow it is 4 years, but one of those years includes your 250 year, so 3 years on R correct?

No. 4 Years for the class you are supervising.
3 Years if you are a licenced instructor... As stated above.

You know this is rather interesting. I just called the DPI and they've instructed me that you require a learner's permit to ride a R class bike whilst on your R-E licence. This left me wondering if I actually needed a written document for my learner's permit, much like the one I had for my R-E.
SO. I rang up the local cop shop. After much confusion and 3 constables later, they came to the conclusion that YES I need to have a documented learner's permit in my possession when I am riding.
See it's really important to me because the place I store my Ducati at has a tremendous amount of police activity and I'm sure they'd love to nab me on my duke.
I'm not trying to counter whatever anyone has said in this thread, I'm merely expressing my experience today and basically what I've been told first hand by the actual people who are gonna make an issue of it.
Monday I'll be straight down to midland licencing and I'll get this damn permit. I'll post back on how that goes.
