    Props to some good cops

Was just up the road at BP gateways and there happened to be a highway patrol car sitting there, one of the boys came over as i was filling up and said "just giving you a heads up that if you would like to avoid a work order i would change the angle of your number plate and put a red reflector on it" (he wasnt worried about the FE jsut the angel of the plate) i said " no worries" as he left he said " have have good ride and stay safe".

i thought this was all pretty good so now i have adjsuted the plate angle and scrounged up a reflector fro man old pushy.

I find it obscene they can book you for a FE when my new bike is having one fitted before it leaves the shop floor.

Most people say fuck the popo until they need them and then they say "where were you when I needed you" and the cop is thinking "hang on you told me to go fuck myself last week then you need me and whinge because i'm not here in 15 seconds". One word Hypocrisy.

Big rep to lo1ux for having a balanced point of view

They can book you for riding a race bike on the road too, is that obscene?

Its the law kids, suck it up.

Get booked for a stock bike and maybe you have some right to complain, but if you've had it modified you put up with what you get.

good to hear a bit of good feedback re bikes with the boys in blue. cops are tops. I have a reasonable angle of my fe so the plate is clearly displayed and have put the stock reflector above the plate, haven't been pulled over for it.

just wondering if you have had a cop see it?

reason i ask is i have a mate with a shocking FE (plate is barely visible) and hes been riding the same bike for 2ish years with no trouble. only thing saving him is he hasn't run into cops yet

do you remember what rank he was?

would be interesting if the cop was a newbie who still had good people skills or an oldie who has had enough of the general public...

I have pulled up next to cops at the lights but as luck has had it no one has pinged me for it. plate is easily viewed though, indicators are a reasonable distance apart and decent size reflector is attached. if someone is going to pull you over for an fe they will do it anyways, but if the plate is easily viewed its drawing less attention to it.

with your mate he might just have a good run of luck.

I got shadowed by a marked and an unmarked up Ennis and then up Dixon the other day. As I stopped at the lights, the unmarked was next to me on the left, and the marked was behind me. I turned and looked at the coppers in the marked, and the guy in the passenger seat was pointing to my plate and fender and looked like he was explaining something to the probate who was driving. My bike is bog stock, left hand rego sticker that sticks out from the plate, reflector, the works. These days I also have a clean licence and no warrants. It would have been interesting to see what they said if they had picked me up.

Usually because when people actually do need the assistance of the police, they're busy chasing up some bullshit traffic infringement.

Before people jump on me for pointing that out, yes, I do realise that it stems more from administrative level policy (i.e. how many police to allocate to traffic enforcement) rather than from the attitudes of individual police officers.

I'm not about to tell individual cops to go fuck themselves just for doing their jobs, but that doesn't mean I don't think the system itself is royally fucked.

Your bike should leave the shop as standard otherwise the shop can get fined as they sold a bike which technically hasn't passed the ADRs.

The moral of the story is that bike shops will fit pretty bloody well anything you ask them to as long as you're paying for it.

When looking at mods I know fall into the questionable areas I generally ask whether or not the items in question are in fact road legal rather than just ordering them blindly. The last thing I really want is giving the defenders of justice an opportunity to put a work order on my bike before the tyres have even been scrubbed in.
