    Q? about stolen bikes.

    Hi guys,

New to PSB and am surprised to see so many post about stolen bikes.

I never thought it would be a risk to leave a bike parked somewhere and I don't understand how this can happen.

Don't all bikes have steering locks? How do the thieves get the bikes started?

Should I be getting an alarm for my bike?

Geez, It's hard enough wheeling 200Kg around in the garage, never mind trying to get it down the street or onto a trailer.

    Cheers.

Steering locks supposedly really easy to break. In any case, it won't stop a few people from lifting your bike into the back of a ute or something. Neither will an alarm. You could chain your bike to something, but chains can be cut. If someone really wants to steal something, they'll find a way. All you can really do is make it as difficult as possible for them and hope they'll decide it's too much effort. Park it next to a more expensive bike, that way they'll be more likely to steal that instead

And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all"

    Wow, amazing video.
I always imagined it being a lone thief.
    Thanks.

I chain mine to a bolt in the garage floor. That should slow down the honest thieves.

Mines got the bike's vanilla steering lock & immobilzer plus I've added a Scorpio i900 alarm (and pager) but I'm sure if they wanted it they'd still get it.

Make sure you also have it insured and insure it for what it's worth. Don't draw attention in your neighborhood that you have a nice bike and don't park it in any dodgy places when your out. That's really all you can do.

I've wondered about this as well, but more around what exactly they do with a stolen bike? Are most of them just ridden and dumped/burnt, or are they parted out or re-registered under a swapped vin?

I have a chain around a bench, but I want to get a longer one so I can chain the bike to the actual garage.

I reckon by the time they saw through the chain my 14 year old boxer will have gummed them to death.

Bikes get parted out or jst fake plates but on and joy ridden mainly. My bikes have the steering lock and the r1 has an alarm I sometimes use. I figure they are in the garage but that's where I keep all my tools so they could just use that to take them. Full insurance or fire and theft make me sleep easy at night.

IF I had a valuable bike I would definitely put some kind of gps device to track it.

Ive got 2 chains, and 5 disc locks for my 4 bikes. But if someone wants to steal them, there going to have to make some noise!
