    Rear Facers and Radar Detectors

Has anyone had a chance to test out there radar detector against the rear facing cameras.
just had software updates and recalibration done to my bel v995 and havnt had a chance to test it yet.
i would like to know if the signal is the same as a forward facer.
eg the speed measuring microwaves is pointing away from the traffic,
so does this affect the detector - will the detector only pick up after you pass it?
sorry i hope this makes sence to someone, i think i confused myself

Reverse facing multanovas are significantly harder to detect. There are so many environmental factors involved that even if you drove past the same rear-facer several times your detector would most likely respond differently. I tested an Escort X50 8500 a while ago and I was alerted to the multanova, but was usually less than 50m away and sometimes level with it.

Your best chance of detecting them would be to get a detector that has selectable Ka bands. By scanning only the small section of the Ka band that corresponds with the multanova's frequency you should get much better response. The Valentine V1 has Euro mode which improves the response and the Bel STI remote mounted unit has 10 selectable Ka bands.

I have the Vengeance 2 radar - I got it because it reportedly picks up rear facers with about 100-200m warning... have only had it for a week or so, so yet to really test it out

I have a newish Valentine 1. It picks up fwd facing multinova's at anywhere between 500-1000+ metres topography dependant.

I have passed a few rear facers. It does pick up direct path reflections/side and rear lobe of the radar, but at about 100 metres...and on one occasion just as I was adjacent to it. Still enough time to react - although you have to do it straight away.

i've heard about the vengeance 2 as well. i went down to the morley shop and the guy showed the difference between the whistler pro 78se, the one i have, and the vengeance 2. alot of difference between the timing of ka bands but same for k bands
that said it was tested at the back of the shop so don't know what it is like in real life conditions.

keep us updated on the range of the vengeance!

This bloke I know has a beltronics built into the car with 2 or 3? sensors inside the bumper, picked up every rear facer he's seen with a min of 50 metres. Display is fitted into the dash and not noticeable when off.

I sell these at work and they're meant to work well, am waiting on a motorbike specific prototype to test, rather than a standard detector with a blue tooth kit the new system will be smaller and designed to be hidden inside the fairings with a remote display. i dont know how well just tucking a detector under your fairings will work compared with what they've got in the pipeline but will let you all know.
I know i cant spell, please don't feel the need to correct me

Have you tried them in a car on the road? if so how well do they work?

the vengeance 2 is the best in the car for multinova detection both front and rear facing its the same price if you buy them through me at auto one or through their web-site Radar detectors and laser jammers reviewed in Australia. they work really well with very little if any false alerts, i haven't tested one myself as i dont need one in the car but my workmate has one atm and he says its great, you can get a blue tooth adapter for the bike but the unit itself i think is a little bulky. they are bringing out new products all the time that will work with all cameras and i was told they would let me know when a new model for bikes comes out so i can try it. dont get the whistler, its crap!

Ive found if you want to improve your portable detector rotate it 90 degrees.... have it vertically placed rather than horizontally. I did this with my bel xr70 and it imporoved the range a fair bit. Did my own kind of experiment (went through a radar about three times) and sure enough improved the range by about 100 m.

I'm thinking the reason for it is the radars are using a polarised system. If you dont know what this means get a polarized pair of sunnies, poke out the lenses and put one in front of the other. Rotate one lens and you'll see the light go from dark to bright. Same thing with the radars at the moment I'm thinking.

I'll be interested to see if the new laser ones are using a polarised light and what plan they are using.
