Registration Refund after an Insurance Write Off

Hey guys, quick question, as I haven't had a definitive answer (besides buck-passing) from any of the 4 parties Ive had to deal with in regards to my bike.

Basically, bike is written off and being collected tomorrow.

2 weeks ago I put 6 months rego on it as I wanted to keep riding it (its still rideable, written off due to scratches), and I want my refund.

Do I take off the rego plate before it gets collected? or Do I hand it over with the plate?

Im insured through swann, some bloke is picking it up tomorrow and taking it to Manheim for auction, Swann told me manheim will refund it, but Ive had no contact with them whatsover, and Id rather hand the plates in myself, knowing I will get the refund there and then, as opposed to some idiot in an office losing something and me not ending up with my cash.

    What generally happens?

If you want to do it, best to take off the plates and get a letter from your insurance company stating the date of the accident or when the vehicle was written off. The the DPI will give you a refund from that date rather than the date you hand the plates in

Hand plates in yourself, otherwise you could get a fine for not doing so

Plates melted on brothers vehicle (got burned), got fine from not handing in plates. Took a month, a letter and countless phone calls to get them to drop the fine
