Road Legal? - Off road 250's

Hey guys.

I have done some research and are unable to determine which 250cc on and off road bikes are road legal.
Are some trail, enduro or agricultural bikes road legal.
Does having indicators and mirrors make a bike road legal. Or does it need to be road registered? Are off road bikes only not registered and therefore you don't pay rego on them.

Any insight, advice or opinions?

Cheers

To be road legal it needs to be assessed by an inspector, they look for things like the condition of the tyres, mirrors, lights, oil leaks, engine numbers so on and so forth.
Off road bikes can only be ridden of road, not because they don't pay rego but because they don't meet the required standards to be ridden on the roads.
Hope that's any help, I'm sure there are more people that can go deeper into the details and if I have any details wrong please correct me.

A lot of brands sell a road legal version and one that isn't. So to be road legal it has to include mirrows, horn, indicators etc.

Its easy to indentify.

These yamaha won't be road legal for example

just look in the quokka for dirt bikes with rego noted as included that should give you an good indication
if you want a modern 250 road licened bike look at bikes like the wr250 or crf250x (the x meaning its the trail version as apposed to motorcross)

i had an xr250 for ages it was good fun to cruise up to the shops on and you could flog it in the dirt and not kill it.

p.s. i may have totally missed answering your question few beers and im trying to hide from the missus....

adr compliance plate , usually near steering head on frame will ensure bike has been found suitable for licensing .

Yes, as some "Farm" bikes have indicators and stuff but are not able to be road registered....

The ADR Compliance plate is the quickest easiest way to tell....
