Selling a bike
Hi all,
Just wanted to vent some frustration,
Im trying to sell my bike, and all i'm getting is time wasters, or empty promises and no shows.
is this the usual with selling a bike privately?
my last bike i sold to a yard, didnt get as much for it, but no headache.

Yep... its the same as selling anything privately. Theres a fair bit of choice out there at the moment and the buyers really owe you nothing.

i'm going to assume you're not meeting at your house and taking necessary precautions which also shows true buyers from wankers casing the joint to come and steal later.
its a pain but worth it.

Shit aye,
haha
Shit,
Hrm... no comment...
haha
well, im always with my bike anyway, if its not at my work basement with security, im on it, or its locked up in my locked up garage, with me sleeping near by.
Its a cheap bike too, so i wouldnt think someone would go to the risk of stealing a bike, when its only worth a few grand...
thanks for the pointer though.

i would only meet them at the shops around the corner and they obviously didn't like it.

I remember a few years ago when I sold a Kwaka ZX9, I had heaps of calls, heaps of no shows bar one, and in the end rang a bike shop, they came out after work, made an offer, gave me a cheque and took the bike then and there- easy and hassle free, and got a pretty good deal, and was free from the worry of someone casing the joint to steal it.

If someone calls and makes a time to come and see the bike, make sure that you've at least got their mobile phone number. As soon as they're a few minutes late then you can call to see what's going on. You'll still have blown some time waiting for them, but at least you'll know if you can give up on that appointment and go do something else.

The most frustrating part i guess is,
if im going to do something or make plans, i do it.
if i cant, i give a courtesy call atleast and an honest reason or what has it.
eh.
guess everyone cant shoot straight.

Have you thought about ebay? I sold my old TW200 on there, had a reserve set at
$1000, buy it now for $1500 and it sold for $1505. Had one guy come and look at it, and the chick that bought it was happy with it, paid cash...all good. I was honest about the sale, no nasty hidden surprises or anything so both parties where happy.

It took me ages to shift the VT250..Had heaps of no shows..and it was sitting so long that when someone finally looked at it, the rear shock had failed(just bad timing). Got a replacement and it sold two weeks later to someone else.... then suddenly the thread got noticed and I got lots of PMs of interest. LOL always the way.
Stick with it...now the rain is clearing...people will be more serious ,cause they will want to get out there and ride.
Good Luck ;-)

I have only once bought/sold a car/bike from/to a yard all else has been private. So you can say i am firm believer that private is the way to go
I havent had manny dramas. The trick is to give people your adress when they are on their way and also tell people ''please dont jerk me around let me know if you are not comming so i dont waste a day''
Another good tip(if you are not riding the bike) leave it at your parents and get them to stay at home and they can show people the bike if you cant make it. You can always visit them and use that time to show people the bike killing 2 birds with one stone
Also ask where there will be coming from i.e if they are comming for Mandurah and you are in 2rocks chances are you will not see them.
As a seller you also have some responsibility like
Have all paperwork ready i.e transfer papers, rego papers (proving that the bike is still registered and that it is in your name), any sevice/repair history, service manuals, spare keys and any other bike related stuff that will be useless with that bike.
I must also point out that in all these years i have only once not shown up when i said i would. So karma is deff there
Good luck with the sale it will go
