    Servicing for honda cbr250 (2011)

    Yo
I bought my bike new from the dealer, who threw in a free second service.
My bike has now just clocked over 6500km, and when i called in to ask to book in for the second service, they told me that with these new bikes, they only need to be serviced at 12000km.

... is this true or they just trying to pull a fast one on me? =.=

The owners manual will specify if it needs a 6k km service.

read your owners manual, it has all sorts of useful info, including the service schedule.

No matter what it says, I'd do the oil and filter. Piss easy to do yourself, or if you have never done it before, ask a nice person for help, feed them beer and learn a thing or 2 in the process.
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Be careful not to skip a service though, your warranty may require it.

They are not pulling a fast one.

Owners manual specifies 12,000km service interval,
but that is too much for a single (depending on use) so suggest do an in between oil & filter @ 6000km.

I do mine every 4000 and use the genuine Honda kit, comes with Washer, gasket, filter, and 2x GN4 bottles for $39.

Careful if you've never done it, the gasket, filter, spring and bolts are a little hard to line up, and the RHS fairing removal is required, and NO heavy handedness with the cover screws.
    Its all in the manual.

well yeah. I meant if you don't need to service it until 12k, I'd change the oil and filter now anyway.

edit: beaten again, and kind of enjoying the abuse.

Apologies for reviving this thread BUT I have just spoken to the dealer from whom I purchsed my CBR250R and was told that only a certified mechanic could change the oil or it would void the warranty!

Then they proceeded to quote me $225 to do the change..

Are they taking the piss or what?

This is true Arcane and dependent on your warranty conditions, some people force you to use there services. i.e I buy a car from Range Ford and they want me to get it serviced at Range Ford unless I elect at the time of purchase and negotiate another licensed mechanic.

If your shit breaks and you missed a service that was scheduled per km/time this will be their excuse.

I believe the warranty can only be voided if they prove the work you did caused any damage to the bike.

absolute bullshit. Not going back to the dealer does not in any way void your warranty.

If anything did go wrong, it would be up to them to prove it was caused by the servicing done.
If you want peace of mind any licensed mechanic can stamp your log book. I'd trust somebody like Derek Ball or Kamahl from K-Tec any day over the 17 year old apprentice at a dealership.

Barfridge, I am talking based purely on fact from my experience with Range Ford. If you expect to receive what they call a New Used Car Warranty (3 years, 150,000kms) you must utilize there services, unless you pay a premium (in my case) I could utilise any qualified mechanic.

With my bike, I have to use DB to service my bike... It's part of my warranty with them.

Sounds like you got bullshitted. There is no way that is enforceable.

Your warranty on your car is with Ford Australia.
Your warranty on your bike is with Hyosung Australia.

As long as you have it serviced by a qualified person, it doesn't matter who/where they are.
Of course dealerships will encourage you any way they can to bring the car back, as servicing is big dollars for them, and they get another bite at you for upgrades too.

edit: so you're talking about the 3rd party warranties on second hand vehicles. They're a different kettle of fish altogether, and are different to a manufacturer's warranty (as would apply here with the new CBR).

With my Hyosung it's with Hyosung australia - correct, but the only agents (that I know of) is currently DB.
With the Ford, being a used car, its a special T&C as it is a used car warranty. I'd suggest that even a new car needs to be serviced at the dealership for whatever reason. I understand they get the monopoly on you but that's the catch.

Unsure of all of this now

So if you rode to Sydney your warranty would be void? You would need a service when you got there, maybe even some chain lube, surely any certified mechanic could complete the log book service and stamp the book rather than air/roadfreight your bike back and forth from the dealer.

When you rode to Sydney and get there, I'm sure that because you are not covered under that agent's 'area' you would have to go to another agent that is an approved vendor.

You really are new to this stuff aren't you? There are plenty of places you can ride and find yourself without a local dealer, I never took my BMW to Perth for scheduled servicing I used the local Yamaha dealer, I did ship it to them at their expense for a warranty claim though, they never queried my service record in spite of close to $3k in work and that was 10 years ago.
Servicing is at your convenience not theirs, if their workshop is booked out or not local you go elsewhere, it's common sense.

    The more you know

I'll post a copy of my warranty T&C tonight if you like (regarding the car), I'm sure you are correct regarding the Bike.

As Barfridge said 3rd party extended warranties are a different kettle of fish, they're generally an underwritten insurance policy rather than factory backed and can have conditions such as a particular brand of oil, genuine parts only and particular franchise chains for servicing to suit their calculated risk exposure. They still have to prove the work caused the damage in the event of a claim if you use another certified mechanic to service to their schedule and conditions at your convenience.

Warranty T&C's don't mean much these days, plenty of companies put unlawful requirements in them.
