You don't pay to use, you pay to support. Big difference. I support a number of forums that provide real value. (ie. more than just chat...)

Describing non payers as 'free loaders' MAY be going a bit far ... BUT thats not my call (If it was my call, id give them no tag, but block them from specific areas eg For Sale ha ha)

Even if they are making money, and keep in mind that even if they turn a tiny profit this year there are 7 years worth of losses he would have to make up for aswell, who cares? If I knew that PSB was turning a profit and I had a spare 30 bucks I would still donate it not just to compensate their time and effort, but just because I love PSB. I've paid 30 bucks for a music album which gets played for like a month and then thrown onto the stack, I knew they were turning a profit but I still supported the band because they gave me satisfaction, and I daresay a years worth of PSB gives me alot more satisfaction than listening to some music before it gets boring.

While I'm happy to pay, I do agree with T_B R1.

And if memory serves, when the Supporter program was brought in (or a bit after, not sure), it was said that the money from subscriptions would not go towards running costs, but into other unnamed benefits for PSBers. I even remember remember Deej saying he was happy to cover the costs (note - not trying to sound like I expect him to cover costs, I am grateful ).

Saying server costs are why we should support becomes a bit of a moot point when the money ain't going there

Nicely worded Jedi.

The money goes wherever the money goes and we benefit from it (good software, new features, pro merch, whatever). Psb grows and evolves over time.

Im happy to pay for this little tag even in the past if it ment I had to skip having lunch with mates a few times a year.

No one makes you pay for it.
For those who do pay for it, they get a little something for their money.

There is a fine line between expressing an opinion and being a blatant whiney little bitch.

I do not object to anyone who does not pay for PSB.
I do not think they should miss out on anything.
I think the supporter system should remain as something for people who wish to donate to the costs of running the forum.
No more, no less.

I will not disrespect anyone for their financial contribution to this forum, only the content of what they post.
It is not the money that is important (to me), it is the quality of posts.
You may have paid top dollars to the forum, but if you post piles and piles of shit then you are more of a hassle to the forum and it's members and should be told to fuck off just as rapidly as a n00b or any other forum member.

This thread was started to get ideas, I put mine forward.
I don't think anyone is trying to force you to pay, this is the internet, and getting all butthurt about a simple tag really isn't going to affect anyone but yourself, and amuse no one but Aphex.

No one is forced to pay anything to use this place. A request was put forward, an option was presented by a member and the majority accepted it.

I would estimate that PSB may have chewed up close to 50k over the 5 odd years of it being around. (Thanks Deej). Supporter fee's have returned a small percentage of that and the advertising has returned even less.

Why would they be looked upon differently? Everyone has their reasons for either supporting or not. Everyone has a different situation. Some that would like to support are perhaps unable to etc... Peer pressue? We're not in highschool any more.

How is it different now? People know who paid and who didnt in the past.
All that has changed is the look of the tags.

I come to that conclusion by reading 5 pages of this thread. I could be wrong

Even the bandwith costs alone would be significant for a site with this much activity...

If you don't want to pay a subscription, fine, but why shit on the payment model?
