Allow parking on the pavement outside city buildings providing it doesnt obstruct pedestrian traffic..

I like the 'bike only lanes' on the freeways / other main roads Idea.
My Idea is a decent system of roads utilising Marmion Ave, Freeways / Tonkin and Roe highways that only have overpasses, and no lights whatsoever with speed limits of over 130km/hr and fines for anyone doing less than 20km/hr below the limit. Basically our own Autobahn system. After a certain amount of time to 'acclimatise' to the higher speed limit (1 year?) they should be raised to we get to a decent limit - lets say 160 ish for now.
Mandatory inspections for cars / bikes over 5 years old - once every 2 years, should help get shitheaps of the road. Not using the current pits system, but accredited mechanics etc.
Audible edge lining 5km each way of places where fatigue related deaths have occured to start with - then extended to all roads with a speed limit over 80km/hr.
All of this will probably save more lives than introducing more speed cameras / lowering speed limits.

In Bangkok they have an area at the front of the traffic lights just for bikes (not sure how big the area is though) and little count-down timers for the lights going green... that'd be sweeet seeing as we'll probably still need to put up with traffic lights for quite some time. Bring on space-bikes!
Oh yeah just different road rules for bikes in general. Sure we share the roads with cars but they are quite different vehicles with different capabilities. I've always thought the speed limits we have are appropriate for wet/shit conditions, they should have a separate higher speed limit for dry conditions... how about Hypercolour (anyone remember those shirts?) speed limit signs, when it's wet they change to the current limits and when dry they jump up 30km/h or so...
+1 for bike lane on FWY/filtering lane at lights/bike area at front of lights/green light countdown

Reminds me...
Traffic lights:
Green -> Amber (approx 4 seconds) -> Red.
We have this bit. How about joining a large chunk of the world and adding
Red -> flashing amber (about 2-3 seconds) -> Green.
Gives all the 'tards a chance to finish their phone call, fix their makeup, put the coffee back in the holder, put the car into gear, get ready to go etc.

Excellent idea.
One for amber lights going red would be good too, to assist in the decision to go or stop.
i.e. a large amber counter next to the amber light that goes "3-2-1" before the amber goes off and the red comes on

I like the bike section at the front of the traffic lights. I'd go for that. Queensland didn't have the changing speed limit signs, but Sydney and Japan did - they work really well. The signs in Queensland were really bright and gaudy, easy to see and caught your attention - I thought they were fantastic compared to the crappy, hard to see at night signs we have here. Maybe I just need to angle my lights up a little.

I'd love to see a green, flashing green, orange, then red. That and/or a line on the road - if you're past the line and it's just clicked over to orange, you run it. If you're behind it, you stop. It takes the guesswork out of, "damn, can I make it or not?" for most people.
The only trouble with this idea is most people would see it as a potential condition to race like a bat outta hell for the lights.

Coz we don't race ambers now...
What about a NE Queensland special - left turn lanes @ lights are "Stop on red light". Lights are red = treat them as a stop sign.

One other thing I'd make mandatory - those flashing 40 zone signs they have along Murdoch drv. near the schools. Those things are awesome.

I'd make sure there were no "dodgy" piles of leaves around... They cause so many accidents...
Other than that all roads would intersect with on-ramps such as perth convention centre, Roe -> Fwy north, and Gozzy GP... it would be so much more fun that way....

Dude Sydney as well! Picture this if you will: 21 year old Pkunk behind the wheel of a hire car with the rest of the family in the car. The car in front goes through the red to the left as is legal. I pull up... do a double take then nail it
*cue screaming*

Meh, just treat them as if they were like that here.
Or "give way", at least...

That bicycle ride day where they close off fwy north for half the day?...have one of them once a year for us. High speed runs, two bikes depart at a time, one minute between each departure. Pay $100 for the priveledge with a nice big barbie at the end. Proceeds to MAD of course.

Okay some slightly feasible stuff has been mentioned...
Instill in law the explicit legality of Lanesplitting and Lanesharing
Motorcycle onlysections in front at traffic lights
Citywide free footpath parking for bikes
Reduction in licencing and insurance for motorcycles
Motorcycle only lanes onall Fwys
increased speed limits on arterial and main roads, further increased limits on Fwys/Hwys
Fixed speed cameras only, and those only in known blackspots, and clearly sign posted.
First licence 16 - 18 a mandatory scooter/bike licence limited class.
Second licence part a 19 - 21 Introductory Car licence with extensive driver training in govt sponsored facilities.
Second licence part b 19 and over Unlimited bike licence after extensive rider training in govt sponsored facilities.

Need the legislation regarding venue owner/operator indemnity first - this appears to be the big hangup at the moment.
Then, not just schools but venues where we can take freestyle riding off the streets and play a bit safer. Running courses at those venues, in a similar vein to racecraft, trackdayz and ARD/TS.
