    Suggest me a V-Twin

Hi All, Currently looking for an r class bike, would love to jump straight up to a 1000cc as planning to keep it for a long time. Have ridden an R1 and also a cbr600, just thought I would look at something a bit different. Have seen the Suzuki Sv1000, Honda VTR 1000f (sorta trying to avoid carbs tho) love the Ducati monster but not the price tag attached.

So the question is, what else is available / second hand that I should be considering?

KTM RC8, although price could be an issue still
    Honda SP1/SP2
TLR1000 from Suzuki although getting a bit old in the teeth
Aprilia RSV1000/Tuono, the older models were still awesome bikes.

Do you want new or consider an older classic? They do have EFI in some

Ducati 996s are at a modest price these days.

Probably wouldn't recommend a Honda SP1 or 2 as they are getting rare nowadays and hate to see another go down the road (risk of first time big powered big bike)

From what I recall the newer VTR1000f's were EFI - pretty restricted though, removing the blanking plates on the throttle bodies made a decent difference to the power they produced.

Superduke could fit the bill. EFI, 1000cc twin. A bit angrier than the VTR and SV1000. Prices are pretty decent too.

I have had some issues trying to find some spares (mostly the little bits and pieces), but the price for the bits I have bought has been better than expected.

Try a Moto Guzzi Griso if your after something different. If I hadn't had my heart set on the Sport 1200, I'd would've got one of these. Rode one on a test ride, left a huge grin on me dial. Good range of accessories available if your into the bling thing.

IIRC there's an RC8R in the for sale section here on PSB. Fantastic bike, though I might be a touch biased on that. You should also be able to pick up a RSV 1000 for an absolute bargain these days. Also; Have you ridden a V-Twin yet? They aren't for everyone.

My 900ss is completely underpowered and won't be competitive if you want to fang it around with the Gixxer thou crowd, but it's dirt cheap and heaps of fun. Makes all the right noises, starts with Jap reliability, handles great, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if you could find one for about 6k.

Still, for some people the power thing would be an issue.

+1 I get heaps more use out of my 1200cc Griso 8V than my ducatis and other guzzis. Nice balance of power and handing in a comfortable upright naked. 100RWHP and great power spread. The handling is really good.

and not many people have them. Guzzis are sorta weird.

Max speed 230, redlining in top, but that allows for nice acceleration.

If you want more power, I like 1098/1198.

Want to put a number on your budget? Otherwise its a bit open dunno how old you are but if you are younger before settling on a bike give a few insurance companies a ring first the quotes you get might cull the field pretty quick.

OP is undecided and should get a Harley Davidson.
Click here to see my Ducati 999R in the PSB garage... You'll love it!

Don't click here to see my ZX9R aka The Ginger Ninja... there's no link!

A motorcycle is a joy machine. It's a machine of wonders, a metal bird, a motorized prosthetic. It's light and dark and shiny and dirty and warm and cold lapping over each other; it's a conduit of grace, it's a catalyst for bonding the gritty and the holy.
