Swann Insurance! Worse than i thought.

So i was hit and run, i have an agreed value for $6000 with swann.

The police have closed the case and the guy got away with it, therefore swann say there is no third party and i have to pay a $700 excess. (they think i have hit a wall or something)

They have sent a letter to the witnesses but unless they can identify the other driver then they will still charge me excess.

I also have to pay out 1 year of my policy as well. Even though i have been with them since may 2011, because in December i updated my policy it counts as starting a brand new one 0 month tenure.

So swann are trying to get me to settle at $4800.

They just completely disregarded my gear as well they are meant to cover $4000 worth of rider gear (helmet not included) but they seem to just not listen when i ask them about my gear.

Swann have taken a turn for the worse, oh and the claims officer Chantalle i think her name was fuck she has an attitude problem, i think she needs to look up good customer service or something.

All - in - all i would think twice about swann, they aren't the cheapest and if you ever to need to make a claim they are bad! Now i just wish i had gone with QBE for the same price.

They are an insurance company, that's how they make their money unfortunately. Take as much money in and pay as little as possible out.

I never had a problem with Swann after my crash, all went very smoothly. I would have gone with them again if they did not consider me a higher risk and want to triple my insurance.

Just wait until they then want a disposal fee for the wreck too.
I used to have a nice sig offering to shadow ppl. Now I have no sig...

My experience with Swann was brilliant.
We are small and exposed, and probably moving too fast for our own good, but that's no reason not to enjoy every minute of the ride.

Most premiums are for 12months even if you choose to pay monthly. That yearly fee is a deal for your cover and once they pay out the deal is done, you have no bike and no policy, only money.

If you make a claim where you say you are not at fault you need to provide them with the contact details of the person who is at fault so the insurance company can reclaim the money from the party at fault. If you can't provide the details then you have to pay the excess. Your no claim discount may or may not be affected depending on the company. This is always the case.

As for your gear chase them on that, ask them why they aren't paying out and to point out the line in the PDS that explains why you aren't covered.

Being polite gets you much further than being angry, not saying you were rude, but if you remain calm and polite the person on the other end will be more likely to want to help you. If you make them dislike you then they are unlikely to bother trying to help, for example they could "forget" a loophole that they know if they don't like you.

Is such a thing even possible?

Seriously, its pretty standard in insurance policies that if the 3rd party cannot be identified, you pay the excess.

You had a contract with Swann whereby you pay them $x, and they cover you to the extent of the policy wording. That you crashed before you paid them the full $x doesn't mean you don't owe it to them any more. And that you didn't read the policy wording before accepting the contract doesn't mean that it doesn't apply to you.

Still, I guess you have learned an important lesson.

    Lesson:

    Always check policy carefully.

Pay the year in advance on insurance if you can - it hurts paying insurance on a vehicle that doesn't exist.

It's alittle hard to identified the car that hit him when he was laying on the ground with his knee split open and the person did a runner.....

It fucking sucks that the police couldn't catch him tap i really hope you have some luck getting your gear sorted etc

Same here, paid me out for my bike as well as the damage on a vehicle I hit (about 14K total) the only concern/issue was them asking how much alcohol I had drank prior to the accident. I was honest and said one pre-mix. They asked for proof of blood alcohol level and again I answered honestly and said "I requested one at the hospital and they refused" so it was my word against theirs I was under the limit (which I'm sure I was), they paid me out a week or two later after questioning me several times "had you been drinking"
