    Tuneup advice ... wanted

    Hi guys,

I have a 1995 Kawasaki ZZR600 with 14500Kms on the clock. I was wondering what my expectations should be with performance on this old beast?

It starts up easy enough and runs without stalling, have to use the choke in winter but doesn't exactly purrr quietly when idling. Taking off is very sluggish to begin with but improves once it has warmed up. Out on the open road it seems to be pretty responsive. I don't think I could do figure 8's on it as it is either sluggish or surges at low speed.

I've got it booked in for a service/tuneup but was thinking that maybe this is just the way it is with this vintage bike.

Would appreciate some comments if you have experience. Thanks.

that few k on a 16 year old bike, needs a good service, probably carb overhaul, bearings etc etc. Solid bike, gave cbr6's a run in there days and engine was the base for the f series zx6r, so no slouch. But maybe some 'couch' hehe

Vintage! I reckon a carb clean and balance would do wonders, maybe one or two pilot jets have crap in them.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am really itching to get this in and serviced but didn't want to get my hopes up. I had an Yamaha XS250 when I was a lad and remember throwing tonnes and tonnes of dough at it .... but it still ran like a dog.
