I'd say 10,000km is about average, +/- depending on how hard/fast you ride and what type of tyre it is.
I had 10,000 out of my ZZR rear, 9,000 out of the BT015 in my 600rr, and 11,000 out of the first set of 2CTs on the 600rr (600 and i'm fairly gentle with the throttle out of corners).

Do yourself a favour: get a front at the same time. If they're the original tyres, they're probably crap. You want the rear to be breaking traction first rather than the front - pairing up a nice new grippy rear with an old hardened shitty OEM front = not the best of ideas, in my opinion. Particulatly if you're "slow and new".
